Being a basement dweller, my studio phone reception varies between horrible and non-existent. I've implemented a Google Voice number delivered via VoIP to a Obihai box and now have a dedicated studio phone (I had been using the house system when the cell failed, and that was starting to be a pain for the rest of the household).

The problem is that part of my portfolio is the standard IVR/MOH stuff that provides an income trickle (hey, a lot of trickles can cause a flood) and I need a decent greeting on my own phone... as it stands, I can find no way to use an uploaded file for my greeting on Google Voice. Something recoded live into a telephone handset doesn't seem the right way for a voice talent to deal with a first contact!

There are a couple of methods on the web, but these seem to be a couple of years old and involve the ritual swinging of the rubber chicken and a strange incantation... anyone cracked this?

Cheers
Peter

I've used a phone patch device in the past to upload produced greetings into my voice mail with fair results.

I used Skype through my mixer for the EWABS announcement, call 818-47 EWABS to hear it. Insane that you can't upload an MP3 like other voicemail systems I've used like Callwave.

I'm using Google Voice as my studio call in line full time. You can conference four people on the fly. My studio mic is patched straight into Google Voice via the Google Chat settings. For playback, (rarely used) I have one of my headphone outputs on my Fast Track Ultra patched back into the Ch1 1/4" jack mic input. I keep Adobe Audition 3 set to External Monitoring, and then just switch the Ch1 input from the mic feed (Ch1 input in the back of the Fast Track Ultra) to the front panel mic/headphone jack input.

Using Google Voice (US only) or Skype, which is what I use for international clients) as my phone patch sounds waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than any traditional phone patch I've used in any studio. Highly recommended. The only problem I've had was a conf. call where nobody told me that one of the participants was in Toronto, so we were all messed up as that person didn't have Skype either (really?). They had to do speaker phone to one of the people on Google Voice.
