Hi.
I am well documented in my disdain for the Pay to Play Voiceover business model, having participated in it and having watched what it has done to this industry.
But it has been years since I last participated in it and I know there have been changes to it. I can't claim its "evolution" as I haven't paid the fee to go inside the tent.
This week when I got an invitation that many of you may have received as well from Voices.com offering a month long membership for $10.00, I dismissed it without much thought, as I have previous times.
But Friday, when I received the "last day" email, I had an idea (hey, you in the back, I heard you say "uh oh", yes I did).
$10.00 is a pretty petty investment (one lunch at Panera...nothing but the best for me) to see if in fact anything had changed in P2P.
Maybe I was ignorant to the new voice over world, maybe this would prove me wrong about P2P.
Maybe I would be a convert!
Without a doubt, though, I'd get a month's worth of good blog material!!!
Sold.

I'm in as well. Post one and two are great. They have almost as many 3 day weekends in Canada as state workers do in Mass. _________________ Wicked huge.....in India.

Peter, you know what would be fun. A big ticker style graphic or cheesy "thermometer" showing how close you are to your goal. It'd be nice to see at a glance how you're doing. Just an idea. _________________ Jeff

Fun stuff, although in your Day One recap I think you were far too kind with your adjective of Eli O'Connell's 'demo.' _________________ Scott R. Pollak

Peter, be sure to figure in your submission/setup expenses when comparison charting this venture. Most people think they only have to break even on the membership fees... NOT. They fail to include set up fees and operating cost per hour to submit again... and again... and again. _________________ "Bailey"

How do you calculate your total take for the month? If you do a SurePay job, do you count the fee against your total or do you just consider your net. And what if someone who hires you through Voices.com then hires you directly for additional work during the same month? Do you count that? _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

I disagree. I think they're frustrating in completely different ways. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Lee it's my own fault, I actually pay attention to the "Smartcast" rankings..but you'd think if your ranked 1st out of 39 auditions you might at least get a call-back..it's happened twice in the past few days...
I have had 3 callbacks in the past month,(on different projects).still nothing..hence my frustration
I know, I know, audition and fageddabout.. |

peter (et al) --
if you paid $10.00 for the premium lite one month membership for $9.95, you're already behind by a nickel.

This could be my most bizarre Voice123 experience ever. Last week I got a SmartCast invitation, submitted my demo, and received the following rating:
"Not likely
Based on Voice Seeker's feedback you were ranked 1st out of 2 auditions that received feedback. (There were 1 talent(s) who received the same feedback as you)"
Not likely, but ranked 1st. Tough crowd.
Meanwhile, my week started with e-mails from two previous Voices.com clients asking if I were available to do jobs for them today. (Both contacted me directly, not through Voices.com.) _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Peter - good fortune to you!!
I was lucky enough to get a job earlier this year through Voices.com that paid for my yearly subscription (well, almost). )
Anxious to see how your success rate unfolds!
