Wow. How horribly confusing and frustrating. I can't imagine what family and friends are going through. Here's hoping you all find the answers you want, but most importantly here's hoping you all soon find peace.

...i'm with db: totally and absolutely confused. would sound like some bad tv script if the tragic result were not so real.

still can't get my head wrapped around this, but thank you for the few details available.

David, please allow me to add my condolences to those others here have expressed.

May you and your family find peace in the knowledge that your brother was greatly admired and respected by those who knew him, even virtually.

That sums it up for me as well, I just can't get my head around it.

I know we'll never know "why"

I'm just glad I knew him.

Well. This just makes me cry.

Thank you, David, for coming here and posting this. The words senseless and beyond comprehension barely scratch the surface. I am so sorry.

I'm very glad that you were able to read all the messages about Mike. I had been afraid that you wouldn't know the scope of people whose lives he touched in a positive way. Now I don't feel that way anymore.

It's so very sad. I wish I could just give you all a big hug and make the pain and confusion go away. Cry

Since I can't do that, I am going to just take some deep breaths and meditate on sending love, strength and peace to your family.

Godspeed, Mike Sommer.

Jen

There are no right words David- just lots of jumbled emotions and a bittersweet thankfulness that we got to share a little space on this planet with your brother for a while- heartfelt condolences to you and all of your family. I hope that the combined love, admiration and gratitude that this little virtual family feels toward your brother- and the legacy he leaves us all is at least a small balm to your pain right now. Mike will be very missed by so many. He, you and your family are in my prayers.

Thank you David for taking the time to help us understand this terrible and tragic loss. I am dumbfounded by the series of events that allegedly took place, simply cannot find words other than surreal.

My condolences to you and your family, this is so sad.

Hi David,

First of all, I’m sorry.

I’m sorry for the loss of your brother, for the horror of it. I know of that horror first hand.

I’m sorry for your family’s private tragedy that has been and likely will be sorted through and trashed publicly by people who cannot put a name and a face to the good person Mike was, yet feel the first amendment protects their right to be publicly stupid. It does, but I don’t have to like it.

I’m sorry I never got to know Mike.

I’m glad you did know him.

As did dozens of people here and likely hundreds more via social media and the very lucky who personally knew him. What a gift.

I’m glad you’re here, on this precious board with these gracious people who, you must understand, did not post their fondness for your brother because it was the "polite" thing to do. Their feelings were and are very real.

And I’m glad I’ll get to share with you now a conversation I had in Toronto this week with my voice over friends Jodi Krangle and Patrick Sweeney about your brother.

My thoughts centered around an idea I’d had since reading these and other deeply heartfelt reactions to your brother’s death and, even more so, your brother's life.

‘I hope Mike’s family gets to see the great testimony to Mike’s life in the posts from people they don't know. Mike’s life meant so much to so many people…I hope the family sees that and gets to experience that.’

And now you have. The words are deeply felt and as sincere as can be. There’s strength to be found there…when you are ready, it’s there for the taking.

What’s done is done. The end was so sad but the life of your brother that we experienced was pretty wonderful.

And no person can grow to be as impactful as Mike was without a pretty terrific family behind him.

Thanks for sharing him with us.

Best always,
--Peter
