I know there have been many threads written on ISDN long distance. Sorry for writing a new one but about a month ago a new client said they were having trouble dialling into California, so "could I dial them?". I had an MCI override code and used that. Anyway, the 68 min ISDN hook up ended up being $344,
About $2/min per line from LA to Florida.
Even if they pay it, I still feel bad, so any advice about getting this figure down or tips on what to do next would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Call them. You'd be surprised what you can accomplish if you reach the right person. If your lines are on a residential account they'll likely turn you over to Verizon because Verizon is handling that -but if they're on a business account you can talk to MCI directly. If you don't have LD with MCI - which it sounds as though you don't - try to reach the MCI business sales department or customer service department - maybe if you add LD they'll make you a deal. (I have MCI LD on my ISDN lines - costs me about $20 p/month - don't remember exactly how many minutes I get for that though - I never dial out) You can talk to billing as well and see if they can do something. Just explain what happened - it never occurred to you that it would be that expensive. You'll have to get through the first and second layers of customer service but if you stick with it you'll get someone with the authority to do something.
