|
|
I've been trying to put together a small(ish) mobile rig for road trips - well, more like occasional jaunts back to the UK, and think I'm now complete.
I "inherited" a Black MacBook with a dead HD, in which I immediately stuffed a 120GB SSD (the MacBook now works like a charm, is pretty quick and quite quiet). I'd picked up a refurb M-Audio MobilePre a couple of months ago, and add in my relatively small MXL V88, and I'm good to go in one small case.
I know some are starting to use iPads etc., but I just can't get on with editing with my finger! I'm a mouse sort of guy. The MacBook is loaded with SoundStudio which suits most of my needs. _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

Peter,
Well done. Sounds like you are thoroughly sorted and I'm sure the results will speak for themselves. _________________ Be well,

That's great Peter. One question though, how do you (and others) deal with acoustics when your'e out of your studio, especially when your'e using a condenser mic. Would you not prefer your SM7b?
Cheers

The basic rules dictate that you try and get the quietest room possible, don't be afraid to ask for an extra duvet, and do the best you can with a makeshift booth. I've actually played around with the standard hotel folding suitcase stand and duvet ... not too bad all things considered. There's no way that it will rival a "real" environment, but will suffice for auditions at least. When I travel to the UK I'm with family, so have a little more control over the environment. The SM7b may well be a better choice, but the physical size & construction does not lend itself to a makeshift set-up. I can see the advantage of a dynamic, and I'm actually considering borrowing the boy's SM58 to see how it works out. _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

Might I recommend looking for a used Sennheiser 421?
Smallish size is easy to pack. Works close, a very forgiving mic in less than perfect acoustics, just add standard foam muff. Nice sound for the male voice, popular in broadcast studios the world over. Easily affordable used. Highly durable, takes a lickin', keeps on tickin'.... _________________ Don Brookshire
