lanceblair.net is all new and spiffier. But what could be more spiffier? And what isn't spiffy at all or, anti-spiffy? Thanks.

Hey Lance, is this your own personal website for voiceover work, or a blog?

I believe he means his website not his blogsite. Click the WWW button below his post to go there.

Wow, Lance. It looks like there's a lot of cheffing going on in your kitchen. A lot to look at crammed into a small space. First, what are you trying to promote? Your voice work? Your international work? There's a lot of info in very small type to try and weed through to get at what you do, but if I read it correctly all you do is voiceover. Very well I might add...and maybe some production work, too.

Two suggestion areas.... a wider website with bigger type. Most monitors these days can easily handle sites 1000 pixels wide and even more. Why confine yourself? And the body copy is so small, and there's so much! Which leads me to my second thought. Should it really take 1000 words spread over four pages to get your message across? Put yourself in the shoes (or eyeglasses) of a busy producer. I think most will spend 30 seconds tops determining if you're a professional they want to consider working with based on the looks and content of your site and the ease with which they can listen to your work. Then if they like how your voice sounds for their needs they'll stay a while longer.

Can't you say what you need to say in well under 100 words? Oversimplifying it quite a bit, isn't all you need to say: "I'm an experienced voice talent with credits from all over the country and the world, and I have phone patch and ISDN", and then let your demos sell your capabilities? Sure you can say it with more panache, but I hope you get my drift.

Sure, list credits but how about the 20 most impressive ones on the front page, and then a link to a fuller list if you wish. Are people really going to download a Hobo LaughingF resume in 2011?

You've got a great product to sell. I say let your voice do your sales job for you, not the heavy prose.

B

Thanks for the comments and questions, and after a bit I've made the recommended changes and spiffied things up a bit. I also brought my blog to be in line with my website lanceblair.net and I've created a new website americanvoiceover.co.uk with slightly different content and SEO for the UK and global markets.

lance - commercial demo is not playing for me (mac/firefox) others are fine (and very good!)

i love the simplicity of the site - show me your talent then tell me how to contact you ... perfect.

the only critique i'd have is when i click a demo it navigates away from your main page to open a QT player in a new window. THEN i have to hit the back button on the browser to get back to where i need to be to hire you. there are lots of simple, free, even text-based players. i'm revamping my site now and am using the text based player with track switching here: http://jplayer.org/latest/demos/

LOVE the white space.

Yeah, I definitely need to incorporate a player, and I've looked at and liked JPlayer before. Thanks for the recommendation. Thanks for the compliments, too. I just checked the commercial link again (Windows) with Chrome, FF, and Explorer and they all worked. Odd that only the commercial link didn't work. Anyhow, thanks!

lance: i didn't see the previous version, but i like the new one (post bruce), and am using you as an inspiration to retool my own site to get more of that clean personal look which still has some character.

would second what todd said about the players, but seems like that's an easy fix compared to the work you've already done.

Nice! Clean, classy, easy on the eyes. Nice demos, too!

Thanks guys. I finally figured out how to get a flash player on my site that matches the look...does it still have that white space vibe?

I still want to put some tweaks in, like a note that the links to the left are for downloading, some shadow for the player, and re-name the demos in the player.
