I'm trying a new setup, and I wanted to get y'all's take on audio quality, specifically whether this sounds "boxy". Looking for feedback about the acoustics.

Thanks!

It does sound like you're in a closed space...but doesn't sound bad to my ear.

When George was helping me tweak my room with the small whisperroom he made a good point. While it might sound a little boxy...many producers "expect that"....to a point. I've never had a complaint here.

Man, we sure miss Mike...especially on days like this.

Not sure I'd say 'boxy'. More like cylindrical to my ears. Wink

To my ear, more noticeable than the sound of the "box" is the absence of any bigger room effects at all....very flat as far as ambiance, which is fine for most people who care about those things.

Connor, it doesn't sound "boxy", but I'm wondering: did you do any digital noise reduction to the file? It's kinda like all natural "life" of the sound has been killed. That's bad. And producers HATE it.

@Jacob -- Yup, I did do noise reduction. I got in a habit of it before getting my new gear this past summer. My noise floor is right around -65 db without noise reduction. When I do my editing with the studio monitors turned up nice and loud, I get all freaked out if I can hear ANY noise at all. Perhaps I'm sucking the life out of my audio....

-65db is an acceptable noise floor, correct?

Jacob's right. Stop That!

Seriously, not hearing a lot of "boxy", but it could use a little natural ambience.

Why not let us hear it without the processing?

For what it's worth, with everything set up at nominal levels so my recording levels stay comfortably around -6dB, I'm looking for an ambient noise of something better than -60dB. Your -65dB is fine (IMHO). If you start trying to artificially reduce your floor below that, it starts to feel unnatural and processed.

Ami the only one who can hear a reverb, like the sound of room reflection? It sounds weird. Where are you recording? Is it a totally dead room or could there be some reflection going on?

Heard the liveliness and the processing. Far from bad but that small room brightness (reverb) could do with being removed.
