The M-Audio was a "requested" gift during the holidays (The old Behringer 802 was sold on CL for $20), and the AT2035 was bought from B&H Photo ($111.37) after much perusing through the VO-BB gear threads regarding "decent cheap" microphones. The M-Audio came with pro-tools se. Yes, I have cable but failed to include it in the photo. Hobbyist are so forgetfull.

I haven't tried out the mic yet because I have to ask the big question. I was told that the MXL was easy... just talk into the side with MXL on it. Now I have the AT2035 and there's printing on both sides.

If I ever get off my butt and quit smelling the mic... nothing like the smell of a new mic... I'll have some questions once I get into this pro tools thing. Thanks for letting me show-n-tell.

Good choice on the 2035. I took a chance myself with that one about a year ago, and have been using it as my primary mic ever since, even though I have two other great mics which (on paper) should be better. Just not for my voice.
Can't believe it's only about $150.

Oh, and you're supposed to talk into the side that has "Audio Technica" on it, not the side that has switches for lo-cut and pad. Scott Pollak knows that, too. Sarcastic

I've had the big brother, the AT3035, since I started and have never heard a complaint about the quality of my audio.

I've gotten a lot of mileage out of my AT 2035.. $111 is an absolute steal

The SE version of ProTools that came with the interface has a lot of limitations. It's more or less promo/demo software to make you hunger for the real thing. You can't use third party plugins with that, and a lot of normal features are crippled.

Just watched a TLM 103 bought new in 1995 go for 670 dollars on E-bay, wow talk about re-sale value.

Nice. Have fun and don't drink in too much of the new mic smell - it makes you go loopy.

So the general concensus is... good choice.
Jacob... Thanks for the directions. I'd better turn it around.
Pro Tool SE... I'll take baby steps for now.

I'm assuming the use of Pro Tools is mandatory when using M-Audio?... and if you don't upgrade Pro Tools, can the audio be cleaned up with GoldWave?

Definitely!

Hell, no! The MobilePre is just an interface, and ProTools is just software - they do NOT need each other! In fact, if I were you, I would forget about PT and use whatever you're comfortable with. Forget what people say about PT being "the industry standard" - be that as it may, I've done VO and production work for over 15 years without EVER using it. Give me just one good reason why you should, and I'll shut up Wink

ProTools is great if you need a complete multitrack studio in a box.... and it does damn near everything with software that you could spend tens of thousands on gear for...

Most of us who talk for a living, however, only need one, or two, or at most, a handful of tracks.... and most of our clients want clean, unprocessed tracks, making PT overkill for most of us.

The PT learning curve is mighty steep. If you have a software recorder/editor you like and are familiar with, your M-audio box should work with it just fine. Your head will thank you for it.
