Don,
Be sure you get the adapter that allows you to use that microphone with phantom power. I believe Eddie Eagle uses the 415 and he's posted in the past that he's very happy with it. _________________ Be well,

I've got one Don. I had been using a Rode NTG3 in the booth. When I switched to the 415 I was able to turn the EQ that George W helped tune....off.
If you'd like some samples, just let me know.
Eddie and I have figured out that we have very similar taste in gear. I thinking there's gotta be a support group for that.
BTW - Sennheiser will still service and re-calibrate these mic's. _________________ Wicked huge.....in India.

What Bob and Chuck said! I throw my support group in. I love this mic. Slightly better off axis response than the 416 and possibly a little less harsh, maybe it's just my voice?
The phantom power supply is easy to get. I think George Whittam has them.
Try it out at your own studio and see if you like the way you sound and if the mic likes you. Then take it out to dinner, wine it, dine it, and start talking dirty to it. |

I had one for a while. Only sold it because I suffer from gear-itis. Pretty similar to the 416, maybe a tad warmer. But you can get the 415 at a much better price. If you're looking for the 416 kinda sound, IMO the 415 will get you there fer shur. |

One tip: Not sure if Eddie has noticed this but....if your use a 415, locate the 48 to 12v adaptor close to the mic...rather than at the preamp end. I had an adaptor fail on me...when I took the mic to Sennheiser for service it was the adaptor that was the problem. I'm guessing that driving a longer cable run is a bad thing with this set up. With the adaptor at the mic end there is an audible difference....and no failure issues so far. _________________ Wicked huge.....in India.

Interesting point Chuck. My adapter is only 18 inches from the mic and then the mic cable. I set it up the 1st time like that and never have changed it. Never had any issues so far. Thanks for the plug, Eddie, but I no longer sell any retail. You'll find 'em easy enough on Google, though.
You should be happy with a 415T that's not beat to hell. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

Thanx, guys.... I'm kinda xcited bout it. Worked with one years ago @ TM in Dallas.... never forgot it. Loved the way you could kinda sneak up on it off-axis and whisper dirty things to it.... and it LIKED it. Kind of a Nordine vibe....
Found the 48 to 12v adaptor on Amazon today for around $50. Next I need to figure out a shockmount. Hear Bob found one @ GC that he likes. Will check it out tomorrow.
Hope to have it here next week.... then it's playtime. _________________ Don Brookshire

Check out the Avantone shock mount. Smaller than most of the usual cat-cradle types and uses multiple o-rings to suspend the mic. I;ve been very happy with mine. _________________ Wicked huge.....in India.

I use my NTK shockmount and put a small band of foam around the 415 to snug it up. Yeah, that's how I rolllllllllllll. |

I have one of these shockmounts and love it, can't beat the price and you get a pop screen with it. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

I'm finding it fun listening (reading) to you guys.
I have used the 415T. Good mic and only liked the 416, which is one of my two go to mic/s now, a little bit more, mainly for Promos although I do some news stories with it.. I think I like it better anyway. Also have an NTK shockmount. I have a stand alone booth, concrete floors and don't get that much vibration.
Post something for us with your current mic and than your new 415 if you pull the trigger.
Also agree that I EQ my 416 less than about any other mic. I run it through the GAP Mike Summer Pre. Also have a Avalon but usually don't use it. _________________ There are rules to the Universe. Learn them and prosper. www.HumbleVoiceover.com |
