I am still managing to run SC through my old Pentium 4 PC, but it's coming to the end of its life and I'm in the market for a new PC (please don't try to talk me into a Mac). This would be basically a stand alone PC just running voice recording programs and SC. Is anyone running something similar? Interested to know whether you are running dual core or quad? Intel or AMD? I will probably run dual boot with Windows XP/Windows 7 as I seem to run SC better with XP. Thanks

Tom,

I'm running a six year old Intel Core2 Duo system, 1.86 Ghz and 3 GB's of RAM.
It runs flawlessly with anything I throw at it. Needless to say, a modern system will give you no problems.

Thanks Jacob, I actually tried using my son's Dell Desktop but it has one of those Celeron chips which are not up to the task. Thanks Tom

Core 2 Duo or better, you'll be jusssst fine.
Source Connect runs fine on my Dell Mini 10 which has wimpy Atom CPU.
I'd say it's time to move on to Windows 7, but XP is still what I open up (on my Mac) when necessary.

You can get a sweet Lenovo Thinkpad T61 with C2D that's very quiet on Ebay for $200, got one for a client a few months ago. Amazed at how nice these things are built and how little they're worth compared to a similar vintage MacBook Pro.

Hi George,
Yeah the weird thing is I moved my EMU soundcard to a very recent Dell running Windows 7 BUT with a celeron chip (kids computer). I would launch SE Desktop and everything ok...but once I connected to echo test it was all jittery...like bad mobile reception (ATT Smile). I can run SC on an old Dell Laptop with Core 2 Duo but not Celeron. When I went to task manager CPU was at 100% with SE Desktop and SC running, so I think it was too much for it. I bought a barebones kit from Tiger Direct with AMD chip...I am sure that will fix it....as long as I can put it together.
I bought the Celeron chip for my kids but now they want to play Minecraft and it can't keep up. Bad buy....steer clear!

I'm running everything in the studio on a quad core AMD (Phenom Black) with 4gb of ram. Win 7 - 32 bit. SC runs in Protools without a hiccup....and that's on a wireless connection (not recommended)

My production rig is an AMD Quad (Phenom Black) with 16 GB of ram. Win 7 - 64 bit. Its has never been allowed to go on the internet to play with other computers.

Am going to take Vista off the dual core lap top and load XP pro I believe that this will allow me to load SC on it and use it for inbound production.

HI Ed, Source Elements who make SC do not support Vista...so you need W7 or XP. I am going to do a clean install on a separate hard drive...I think conflicts with old drivers etc is the main issue. Vista is a memory hog...I changed to W7 and 4gig of ram is heaps. Vista needs more.....it is a Vampire!

I will let everyone know how it all goes! The wierd thing is my old Pentium 4 seemed to work better than Celeron....which is newer.

That looks awesome! My studio is in a different room to the computer, so whilst I don't actually need it to be totally silent..but that looks an amazing machine. Does it have Solid State hard drive?
