Seeking an inexpensive solution to going paperless at home and on the road. iPad seems like overkill. I basically need something to access the web and read doc's and pdf's. Simple
Suggestions? |

| I got Ulf a Kindle Touch with wifi for his narration/vo. Seems to work well for him - cost about $119, as I recall... |

The Kindle is handy since you can install a program/a and then just right click on a document and upload to the Kindle, almost instantaneously. It's not as easy with  F files though. Haven't tried the Nook. |

I posted this exact same question about 6 months ago. The only difference was that my need was solely for in-home use, since I use a netbook for travel.
The inability of tablets to display pdf files was a deal-breaker for me, since I have some clients who send me scripts in that format. I simply drilled a hole in my booth and installed an LCD monitor. It's great to not have to waste so much paper, and it speeds my turnaround time for P2P site auditions. (Though I've found it is a pain when recording a commercial script that needs editing during a session, since my booth is too cramped for a keyboard).
Can't you read off of a laptop while you are recording on the road?

I honestly have not used my netbook all that much since I got the iPhone. When I'm on the road I don't record that much except for audtions. I've been trying to come up with a very streamlined simple way to go mobile by using the Tascam im2 thingie that attaches to the iPhone with Twisted Wave.
If Apple weren't such puds and made things super complicated to upload recorded auditions, this would be the way to go. However, I'm finding I'm needing to drag the netbook along in addition to the iPhone. then I might as well record to the netbook which means then I have to pack a mic and there goes the streamlined approach and I'm back to square one.
So on the road the netbook is still part of the deal, so yes, technically I don't really need an e-reader type tablet to read scripts
But at home I'm in a treated 10x15 room rather than a booth, and I've moved entirely away from the computer to record now. I try not to use a mouse and keyboard a all while I'm recording, and I"ve noticed a marked difference in my reads. The e-reader idea sounds ideal for those mulitple page narration gigs, as well as using the wi-fi to blow out those P2P auditions. If the F thing is a a problem though, it might be a situation where I have to bite the bullet and go with an Ipad or similiar tablet |

I'm not sure where this F thing is coming from, but my 1st generation nook reads them just fine.

Kindle Fire works great with pdf files.

I stand corrected re: pdf files. It may be that I was rejecting the Nook and Kindle for having too small of a screen size. While the bigger tablets at the time I made my inquiry in this forum (e.g., that HP tablet that they gave up on and blew out the door @ $99) did have issues with pdf. So while I'm not entirely making it up about pdf and tablets, it seems my comment was both inaccurate and dated.
Captain54, why do you suppose not having a mouse and keyboard in your booth has led to markedly improved reads?
