This is kinda scraping the surface, but here's him
roaring into a garbage can to sound like a lion.

...i did that once on-air to get the sound of a ghost. bet mr. welker was smart enough to make sure he grabbed a CLEAN can for his performance.

How can you possibly not love Mr. Slate, Abu from Aladdin, Slimer from Ghostbusters, Freddy from Scooby-Doo, and Megatron all rolled into one?

Frank Welker rocks!

Also, when a horse needs to talk in a movie, Frank is the one called in to do the recording session.

Then again when he needs to come and dub out the horse's swear words, so the movie can be broadcast on TV and airlines. Rolls Eyes

I also loved how he made claw hands. For some reason that made me very happy (and less self conscious about my own goofy, much needed hand gestures)

I used a metal trash can once. My first radio job in little Winslow, Arizona. We didn't have reverb in our production room so we'd yell into the empty can next to the mic. About as low tech as low tech can get. Might have sounded better if we'd used claw hands.

That was pretty amazing.

I was actually the voice of Darth Vader on a very early Star Wars game title called "Star Wars Chess". When I auditioned for that, I held a large coffee cup up to my mouth near the microphone.

I am rather tempted to go try doing a lion roar into a garbage pail to see what I can do, but since it's only come up twice in 25 years, I may leave the roars to Mr. Welker.
