i just wanted to pass along something for whatever it's worth - which, admittedly, prolly ain't much.
vimeo.com is a great place to host your online video content - upload it and use the provided embed code on your website.
why? vimeo is a video server - your server is not. the videos serve up fast and play all the way through for most users. AND with a vimeo plus account ($60/year) you can customize the player all you want - replace the vimeo logo with your own - or none at all, customize the color(s) of the player, thumbnails, etc. AND instead of worrying about how much bandwidth you're sucking and making your video smaller/lower res - you can post in HD and not worry about it at all. and, yes - it works on ipad/iphone/iwhatever.
youtube does a lot of the same things - i just prefer vimeo. the point is, with such free/cheap services, it's silly to try to host your video yourself.

My only problem with Vimeo is the majority of times I have viewed things there the video hiccups, farts, or hangs up for a frame or three here and there. Not the quality of playback I usually see on YouTube.

yeah - one problem with vimeo is that they WILL allow you to upload something too big for it to handle. they will warn you that it is too big and direct you to their recommendations, but if you persist they will let you do it wrong, whereas youtube converts automatically. using their recommended codecs i have never had an issue with hiccups. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

BIG +1 for vimeo. I use it for the videos on my site, and love it! And like Todd, (or should I say "todd"?), I've never had an issue, so long as I follow their recommendations. _________________ Doug Turkel (tur-KELL)

I just use YouTube. I'm sure vimeo does this, too, but YouTube serves HTML5 versions for those on iOS devices. _________________ Jeff

I've always preferred the default video quality of Vimeo over youtube. Haven't had a need to post video on my website yet but it's good to hear that you're happy with it. Thanks for sharing!
Reminds me of the task of converting over to a customizable, clean html5 audio player for my website. It's currently the popular flash audioplayer plugin. /end Jordan's internal thoughts. _________________ http://jordanreynolds.com |

Thanks D! I went back and gave the third paragraph a "dramatic" read. I'm now stuck with an infomercial in my head. _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

I like them both.
Lot of drunks with cameras video on You Tube
More serious videography on Vimeo

But if I abandon YouTube, I'll miss all those wonderful, heart-felt and constructive comments!
Actually, I pay for a photo-hosting service (Zenfolio), and they've just started to offer a video hosting thing as well. I may try them out first. I certainly agree with Todd that hosting videos on my own site is probably not the best thing to do...
Cheers, m'dears. _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

Haha! So true! And yes, the commenters on youtube are from another planet, I swear. The video footage quality on Vimeo is usually better and more serious as you said. And I like that . _________________ http://jordanreynolds.com |
