|
|
I am way out of my element here. I got asked to participate in a side project for someone and have no clue as how to figure a rate. It's 20 minutes worth of animation and I'd be coming up with and voicing 4 different characters. He's asking me for rates..specifically this is what he asks me in the email:
"I need to know what you charge for the following:
1 Day stand in Voice Over Audio Creation - recorded at your studio and supplied as a wav or quicktime file. This includes the voice creation for Monty **** / the **** / the ***** / and the *****.
1 Day Final Audio Creation - taking the final finished animation and refining your audio for completion of project."
He initially said his budget was "tight" but "flexible"...not really sure how to take that. I've never really tackled anything like this before...Any ideas???Mucho gracias in advance _________________ Jeff Augustine

Here's one way to look at it. Union rate schedule is a little messy to look at, but it looks like it's $782 for up to four hours in studio and up to three voices. Add $209 or $280 per extra voice in that time depending on whether it's cartoons or video games....plus pension and welfare, yada yada.
I know people who have done small animation/game projects for $300 an hour of their time and they've done major projects for close to $1,000 an hour.
If you go network then it's even more plus residuals, but I'm guessing this is not the case here.
It sounds like they want a package deal: everything we need from you for one flat price. How long is your part of the script? How big is the company? Where will this play? Answers to these will help you.

Wow...thx so much Bruce..very helpful!
Best I can tell, the guy is doing it as a side project for himself. So no company affiliation. I've perused his website and the guy seems extremely talented and legit. I'm thinking this might be used as part of his portfolio for a job???
I have asked if it will be broadcast anywhere or sold to anyone and some of the other questions you mentioned. He lives in Australia so it takes a bit of time to get answers:)
Thx again for your help! _________________ Jeff Augustine

Australia uses a bit of a different system for rates in a number of mediums. The body that upholds the minimums is called MEAA.
As per the MEAA website (www.alliance.org.au), the rates for animation are:
1. DAILY (min. 8 hour call) $892.75
2. HOURLY (minimum call 1 hour) $214.24
Just to give you an idea of where he may be coming from...
Good luck! _________________ www.mattcowlrick.com |
