Happy Independence Day y'all.

However, I have a semi-serious idea for us to consider. It really kinda screws things up to have a holiday in the middle of the week, doesn't it? Those two two-day work weeks don't seem nearly as efficient as a four-day work week. People's minds are elsewhere and they take half of Tuesday off at least mentally if not physically.

Can we just move Independence Day to like the first Friday in July? That way every year almost everyone gets a three-day weekend with plenty of time to make plans or travel. Plus, we're not really celebrating a bunch of sweaty men signing a piece of paper on that particular day (actually they signed it on August 2nd), but the two year insurrection leading up to Declaration Day (the 4th) and the seven years of fighting afterward. And between you and me most people are just celebrating a day of picnic food and fireworks and couldn't even name 7 founding fathers. What say you?

So as not to conflict with Trick or Treating, which must now be done in broad daylight.

(Seeing as how this thread has wandered off in its own direction, I shall start a new official July birthday thread.)
