Handy!

I must say it's fab to read copy from an ipad. No more panic when the ink runs out, no more mountains of paper clogging up the bin. It just feels clean and efficient - there'sno going back.

I agree too!! btw I just got a music stand, took the holder top off, put some carpet on it and screwed it into my booth wall for a holder for the IPad. It is great to change pages at the flick of a finger with no paper rustling. And to save the paper (I bet there are tree huggers among VO) . Jeffrey and other long form people....is this what you do?

I've got a clip on stand that connects to a mic stand. It has a short boom arm so it's easy to position. Makes it easy to angle it down a bit to avoid reflection too. I do love the iPad. For long form I use goodreader to add quick markups on the Hobo LaughingF.

What I really want is a 21" capacitive touch screen third monitor for the computer! Can't justify the price yet though.

I'm not getting how to mark up a Doc. or DocX MS word file in GoodReader

I was able to figure out how to download the attachment, but now quite sure how to get the Doc to convert to Hobo LaughingF, which I'm assuming is how and where you mark it up, correct?

If you have a Gmail account, you can quite easily throw that document into Google Docs and then convert it to a Hobo LaughingF.

My process is this (works for me):

- Receive script from client in Gmail
- Open the script in Google Docs or upload the script if it was sent via another method
- Save the script as a Hobo LaughingF in to my DropBox folder
- Go to DropBox on my iPad and open the Hobo LaughingF using GoodReader.
- Mark up scripts
- ???
- Profit!

Yep. It will only work in a Hobo LaughingF. I downloaded a program called Save2pdf, but the google docs route works just as good.

Sorry I didn't mention that step.

I'm not seeing where you can save a doc. in Google documents to Hobo LaughingF and export to Dropbox on an iPad. I even bought GoDocs and can't figure it out in there either. What am I missing?

I am not sure about straight conversion. I use Save2PDF aHobo Tounge for conversion.
You just 'Open In..." by long-clicking the file in your email.

If you have it on google docs, though, you can open it, click file -> email as attachment -> then change the format from HTML to Hobo LaughingF. Then just email it to yourself and open it in goodreader.

I wasted $4.99 on GoDocs when all I had to was open my yahoo mail, open doc. attachment in Pages, email back to myself as Hobo LaughingF., then open in Goodreader

I'm not familiar with GoDocs, but that's good that you were able to figure out how to do it with Pages. That's the same sort of idea as I was suggesting with Google Docs. The only reason I prefer to put the script in DropBox is that I don't fill up my email inbox with all of the scripts.

With Pages it doesn't matter what type of email account you have, you just export the attachment to Pages.. With the Google Doc method, it pretty much only works with Gmail account (I'm assuming), which is why the Pages method worked better for me.

I use a combo of Dropbox and QuickOffice. Wish Pages had Dropbox intergration.

Wouldn't it be great if you could scribble notes on a WORD doc with a stylus pen?

By the way, the voice aHobo Tounge comes in handy for quick script changes on the fly.
