Hmm, Deebs. I just received an email from a Utah company that produces virtual tours for Realtors. A long, rambling tome that ended with, "We pay $.40 per tour". I had to maximize my screen to double check that decimal point wasn't a dust fleck on my screen. It wasn't.
From the 15 versions, which would you suggest? I'm thinking of something off-list. Like, "You're------kidding, right?
Of course, I'm still at the "start" of the interviewing process. And that if hired, I wouldn't be required to work weekends or any of the major holidays. _________________ www.voiceoverdrew.com

I just got a "Voice Seeker Invitation" on Voice123 for a project I don't really want to do. I need to respectfully decline the "opportunity" and several of the choices on that list seem to apply. Now I have to decide which one to go with. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

When I've had stuff like this, I've never been able to resist the temptation to remain very straight-faced and point out the error/typo in their email. Something like:
Thanks for your email, but I'd just like to clarify the rate quoted... obviously there's some mistake and I'm assuming you meant to say "We pay $.40 per word."
You never know... it could be a mistake. In fact, I think it really is, 'cos $.40 is beyond credibility... even for low-ballers! _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

I'm with Bish on this one, 'cause of the missing "0" in front of the decimal point. Unless they're trying to be sneaky, thinking you'll agree to it and then they can point out the decimal a la fine print. _________________ Kendra Hoffman

I was leaning toward, "We can do that. Or... we can just get ice cream instead."
However, I followed Bish's advice.

Am I wrong in thinking that even if the decimal point were misplaced, $40 is still low for one of these real estate tour VOs? _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Wish I had had that list yesterday before I responded to a potential client that I had cold called.
He had quickly replied to my voicemail/email intro to say that he was interested......and usually pays $35-40 per spot for his many voice talents.
I think he should stick with "them" in that case. _________________ Wicked huge.....in India.

No boo boo.
Reply this morning from client:
"No, my email was correct. We pay $0.40 per clip. That's why we wanted to talk to everyone about pay scale before beginning interview. For some, this works fine, but for others our pay scale is nowhere near what they are used to. It appears you fall into the latter category, and I'm assuming you are no longer interested; but if you are, please let me know.
Thanks!"
I wrote back saying she was correct, I am in the "latter" category, but, "...thanks for your interest."
Let's just say if one could spit out sixteen of these in an hour. The hourly rate would come to around $6.40. Kudos, er eh, condolences to the winner. _________________ www.voiceoverdrew.com
