When someone calls, books you, then says:
"we're going to have to have to postpone, the client hasn't approved you as the talent yet.."
Now I'm not as experienced as many of you, but should'nt you get the client approval BEFORE you book the talent??
OK, rant over.. |

Yes.
...or they can put you "on hold" for a certain time while they get approval so that you avoid booking anything during that time once they're ready to move ahead.
But that's different than actually saying that you're "booked." _________________ Liz de Nesnera O.A.V. ~ Livin' The VO Dream!

In the UK the term "can we pencil you in for ..." is used. It is fair way of doing things but we must always, a bit like PAPER ROCK SCISSORS, be mindful of the fact that INK beats PENCIL. Needless to say we must tell the pencil (on hold) the an INK has ERASED or taken them OFF hold.
I've been trying to get a production company in the US to play fair for 3 months and they are experts at misunderstanding things when it suits their agenda ...They even misunderstood "I do not want to work for you".
So, if someone says that they would like to book you simply read back the information.
"Ok so we are confirmed and booked for 11am on Tuesday the 12 for the ACME Automatic rifle kindergarten range commercial, yes?"
Trust me, one sniff of commitment and they will wriggle.
I once said to a producer.
"Let me get this clear, you would LIKE to book me but you're not going to? Ok, I'll keep the 12th at 3 open until I close it"
His response
"Awesome! Thanks"

Do you mind if I ask who the "someone" is? Is it your agent, a fellow talent, or other kind of reference? It sounds like someone you don't work with so regularly _________________ - Jack |
