From a recent client...

"You're so flexible. I love it. We're going to have to give you more
work with higher pay."

Let's hope that's true. It's been a sloooow couple of months...

(Am I sounding like that woman over on the V123 blog?) Foot in Mouth Laugh

Believe compliments from your enemies, criticism from your friends and nothing from your clients—except a check.

Anybody here ever fall for the old "Do it cheap this time and you'll get a lot more at your full rate" dodge?

But clients saying nice things always feels good.

Arggh, methinks I walked that plank one too many times.

Good advice. The only good thing about this situation is the pay is already pretty good...

Arrgh... it be an old adage. An ancient axiom. A venerable maxim. Or, Jamie me lad, it could be me tankard of rum talkin'. It could go either way.

Haha, though if I really looked like my current pirate avatar, I might believe them Smile

I keep clients' nice comments for potential testimonials (without stating their identity without permission, of course) but seriously, anyone might mean anything at the time they say it, which is nice, but one can't hold anyone to anything, or feel let down when it doesn't materialize. That's because things change. For everyone.
Be they clients, husbands, wives, whatever, and it might not be in their realm of possibility for one reason or another even the next day.

So we needn't beat ourselves up about "promises" that do not come to fruition, because they were not promises, they were well meant intentions at that moment in time. We all do it, truth be told.

I lost count of the number of clients who said that kind of thing to me, and in the end, they decided they wanted to try something new (without telling me) and good on them. It's all exploration, it's all exciting. On the other hand, many clients call me and I do not remember them. Thank goodness for computers and intricate logging of calls, rates, emails and files.
And also on the other hand, I courted agents who helped me a lot in New York, and then I had to follow my heart and move to Australia. It's just people and life.

I'm not trying to be flippant, just being the old pirate who has walked the plank and bluffed it back on deck many a many a time.
Guess we're all doing that one! Smile
