I wanted to view the video links that DB is offering in the Work section but my browser says I can't view AVI files without the right add-on to my QuickTime (on a Mac). It led me to this page of a dozen add ons:

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/resources/components.html

Oh, ye who know more about this stuff than I do, which of these add-ons do I really need to be reasonably up to speed in the near future?

Many thanks,

B

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1536

Here is instructions on how to determine which codec was used to encode the .AVI You should be able to find the codec from within QuickTime, an then download the corresponding codec from the site.

bruce - i have quicktime 10.1 on my mac - but i have it on a very short leash --- because i HATE quicktime. i get a pop-up that says "do you want to play this stupit quicktime file" every time one appears. anyway - this version plays .avi just fine.

one of these will likely work:

/mac/7964/apple-quicktime" target="_blank" class="postlink">http://www.macupdate.com/aHobo Tounge/mac/7964/apple-quicktime

stupit quicktime.

I should have said I'm using Quicktime Pro, which is still in version 7. More bells and whistles than home version #10, I guess.

I was able to download an AVI and play it through QT that way. My browser just didn't like doing it direct off the Web.
