One thing to keep in mind is that the OC panels are fiberglass and that's a lot of off-gassing in a very small space. Try to keep the materials as natural as possible for your respiratory system's sake. _________________ Pam Tierney

Wow...that stuff does look great! You could even cut up triangles to get some greater thickness in the corners and really cut the bass. I would have like to have used that stuff. The rock wool sounds amazing, but the stuff was nasty to install. You could probably just put that Eco stuff in raw, with a screw and a washer in the corners. Even make 2" standoffs. That'd look sharp. |

Thanks for all of the tips, much appreciated. Installed rockwood panels from ATS - 2'x4'x2"s on 2 walls, a 2'x2'x2" on another (couldn't use 2'x4'x2" because I've my shelf for keyboard/mouse there), and 2'x2'x2" cloud on ceiling. Used cut sections of my Auralex sheets in corners to round them out, 2'x4'x2" sheets along lower half off walls and a cut piece of Auralex on the door below the window. A little problem though, most of the bass and resonance is gone from my voice:( _________________ www.jjwright.com |

I guess you can pull the new material out one piece at a time until you find the sound and sound deadening combination you like the best.

If it's good and dead, you can always sweeten in post. If you are listening through monitors, your voice may sound the same, and the room could just not have as much resonance as your used to. You could be hearing a closer representation to your true sound. Now, if your listening in headphones, that may not be the case. |

JJ, you are too close to this... you need to have objective ear hear your recorded audio. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

yeah, rockwool or OC 703 pulls out a lot of that artificial boominess, which is actually a good thing |

Sounds good to me. Are you standing the same distance from the microphone as you were in the sample you posted in the other thread? To me this is a very strong, solid sound. In the previous sample you sounded too far away. Here, you sound very present, and to my ears at least, there's plenty of heft and body in your tone. Very solid audiobook tone, in my opinion.
[EDIT]
And to the extent that it's TOO solid, I attribute that to the NT1-A. I have one, and I've never been completely happy with it. I think your space sounds fine. But I think you might sound better with a different mic. Maybe even an AT2035. |

Yes, same position as previous audio sample in earlier thread, only without SE Reflexion Filter and about a 6db increase in gain. _________________ www.jjwright.com |

Interesting. I wonder which change made the bigger difference. |

I agree that it sounds good, a total lack of bass resonation and early reflection is a GOOD thing, believe me. Nice work, JJ.
With a TwistedWave stack applied, it could sound like this (if this is what you are going for):
