I picked up a ShuttlePro v2 this past weekend, and it is amazing for audio editing.

I was having some pain in my hands while editing audiobooks, and thought I'd try it out. With a bit more muscle memory, I will be an editing ninja! |

Looks interesting, but the site doesn't specify WHICH leading audio and video editors their device is compatible with..... does the documentation go any further? Or did they not go that far in development? _________________ Don Brookshire

I can see this as being great for someone who uses keyboard shortcuts all the time. Button assignment is a great thing... but, I was kinda disappointed to see that it wasn't a mouse as well (seriously, how difficult to put a laser tracker under that puppy?) Their description talks of using a mouse in one hand and this device in the other. This may be great for helicopter pilots, but it ain't gonna work for me. Training my left hand to be that independent at my age is not happening... I'm pretty much monodextrous (which is one of the reasons I have no piano left-hand technique). Mousify it, and they may have a winner. _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

Thanx, Corey.... Looked around, but couldn't find it. Looks interesting. Curious to hear more as Jason gets more familiar with it. I'm a Propellerhead guy, myself, and this could be really helpful with workflow. _________________ Don Brookshire

It is exactly like a second keyboard. You can program each button for a bunch of different things like Cmd-Shift-Z (the Mac hotkey for Redo). It sits in your left hand (which works good for me) and you can even program the shuttle and scroll wheel to do different things. The shuttle even has programmable zones (I have it set for scroll up and down to zoom in AA). It works globally, so I have had no problem using it in AA for most things and Studio One for punch and roll recording.
You can program any button for any keystroke. It also fits in your hand real well. I set my 4 fingers on the bottom row of top buttons and can reach all of the others, plus I can reach the shuttle and lower three (on the right side) buttons with my thumb. I have the middle lower button (to the right if the wheels) set as space (start/stop on most daws) and the other buttons are programmed for my most commonly used keystrokes ( undo, redo, record, copy, cut, paste, autoheal, delete )
I almost never drop markers, but you could absolutely do it extremely easily. The programming software is super easy to use, and, as I said, it is global. Like Corey said, just like a second keyboard.
I've had zero glitches so far. |

Is it silent? I normally drop markers at mistakes and then do a quick pass to remove them, but that means using a keypress, which often gets picked up by the mic. A silent button and a smaller device would be a big help. _________________ Corey "Vox Man" Snow

I've been using one for years, it's silent and you can map the buttons to particular functions.
So I have mine set up as a transport on the top row of buttons, and a few edit buttons and an undo button.
The jog wheel is nice too for moving to the edit.
It works great for me in both Digital Performer and ProTools 10. The way I use it, hit record, and all that. And when I make a boo-boo, the undo button brings the record point right back to where I made my last punch in and I can hit record again right away. Bink bank bop. Pre-roll set for 4 seconds and we're back in business. _________________ Company, villainous company, hath been the spoil of me...

Hm, if it's silent then maybe I could use it to do true punch and roll rather than drop markers. _________________ Corey "Vox Man" Snow

Mine is not exactly silent. I hear a click when I push the buttons. I do punch and roll with it though. |

Very cool, except it should totally be a mouse! Then I'd buy it without a second thought. _________________ the Amy Snively family of brands for all your branded thing needs.

How big is it? Hard to tell from the pictures; I don't get a good sense of scale. Also, does it seem to be durably made? _________________ Corey "Vox Man" Snow

Maybe 5-6" wide and 9-10" long. It only stands about 3/4" or so up off the desk and the buttons follow the contour of the hand very well. Having my hands sit in the same place on a straight keyboard was the kicker for me.
It might be a cool mouse...mighty big though. In its current config, you couldn't pick it up.
Seems pretty durable, has 6 rubber feet that don't let it slide a single bit. It also has a very long cord that connects via USB. The scroll wheel and shuttle are a very standard size...maybe 2" in diameter...ish. |

Interesting, larger than I thought. I don't record in front of my PC, so anything that I could use from my lap would be great. Sounds like it could sit in one leg fairly comfortaly. _________________ Corey "Vox Man" Snow

What would be really cool would be putting a Velcro strap on the bottom |
