|
|
I just found out this morning that a fellow VO at my local agency has been trying to raise the money to purchase a therapy dog to combat her chronic depression.
The full story is at k94k8.com
Kate's raised enough for the dog, but is hoping to raise $5,000 to pay for the pet insurance required by the therapy dog agency.
Thought I'd pass it along in case anyone has some Christmas giving still to do. Kate's going to meet and start training with her dog in January. _________________ Kendra Hoffman

Best of luck to her! _________________ Liz de Nesnera O.A.V. ~ Livin' The VO Dream!

$5,000 for insurance? For what, exactly? |

As I sit here thumbing through the Long Island Suffolk County yellow pages, I find the following:
8 pages of electricians
12 pages of plumbers
76 pages of lawyers
If a kid runs onto my property to throw a brick through my window, slips, falls and suffers injury during the process, I will get sued. I need insurance to protect myself from bankruptcy and malicious (or just plain opportunistic) lawsuits.
It is unfortunate that the US has become so litigious, but nothing will change that until there's major tort reform. I have every sympathy with the lady that has to find this onerous amount to protect herself. _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

It's actually health insurance for the dog. Heeling Allies wants to make sure that if it gets sick or hurt she is able to cover the medical care.
Regular folks with regular dogs can get health insurance for their pooches too - but usually the payments are monthly, not one giant lump sum.
Can't say I'm doing it for my dogs - but my dogs didn't cost 20 grand each.
Thank you everyone who's chipping in!
Kate's a real firecracker. I had my first-ever dialog audition with her back when I was just starting out. We were supposed to sound like close friends, and she threw her arm around me to help with the mood. As a massive introvert, I got a little freaked out, but she was so bigger-than-life there was nothing to do but roll with it. We had a lot of fun and it must've worked to some degree, because I booked the spot (though unfortunately she didn't book the other half).
I also remember that Kate had to crouch down about a foot so that we could be even remotely the same height for the one mic. I have since purchased a stepstool for my agent's office. _________________ Kendra Hoffman

Ooops... sorry. Wrong end of the stick got hold of
$5,000 for canine health insurance to protect the high investment in the animal is another matter, but still comes under the heading of "an onerous burden" if it's mandated. Glad to help. _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

Duh. Health insurance for the dog. We have two dachshunds at home, and wished we had had insurance for the one for her back surgeries. |

For Jazz and Bess. Insurance premiums for health, liability, Luddites, fire, theft and withcraft are a total of $75 per month.
Salt water corrosion included
