That s genius way to clear all the noise in the "silence." How do you control the length if the silence? Is there a deal with Paste Mix Special that just pastes over the selection without changing the time? |

I just mix RT over entire track.
Experiment with a short piece of audio and see for yourself. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

Does anyone know if Audition is scriptable? Seems to me a clever AppleScript could perform the necessary actions if so... _________________ George Washington III - The Evolution of Voiceover

According to what I've read, scripting is not fully possible. The closest thing is the ability to play a "macro" (no cursor actions, just keystrokes) as a favorite. I believe full scripting is a requested feature in further versions. Makes me crazy that they had it in cs3, but I guess 5.5 was a complete rewrite, so they didn't really remove the feature, they just didn't rewrite it. |

That's awesome, George! Glad it's saving you some time.
I've managed to make Cubase 7 work with true punch and roll, and my goodness, it's a timesaver. And I don't even have to wear cans! _________________ Corey "Vox Man" Snow

The rep on the Adobe FB group told me P&R only works in the mixer mode, not the edit mode with AA6.0.
Because of that, I've been just picking up from right where the cursor is, and it's saving me lots of time, instead of waiting for the "roll" in punch 'n' roll. Once you get it down, the "instant pick-up" is the bomb!

Thanks for the excellent tips in this thread!
I, too, am upset with Adobe, as I purchased CS6 with what I thought was the promise of a punch/roll feature. I will certainly check out the Presonus Free for this. Thanks, Jason.
George, the "detect silence/mix in room tone process" would save me massive amounts of time in audiobooks. As I use a PC and that precludes using Twisted Wave, I'm wondering if one (some) of the PC friendly programs can accomplish this?
Merry Christmas!

If that was true, I'd be all over it...but I don't think you can. There is no preroll option in AA CS6 at all. It would be great to punch and roll in multitrack. Just keep recording over the top and merge the track at the end, but alas...no preroll.
Maybe I'll give the no preroll thing a shot. |

I messed around with a few different methods in AA, and I've come to realize that I really like how Studio One handles the Punch and Roll. I'd be willing to be it is very similar (if not identical) to how Pro Tools handles it. One key feature that AA doesn't have the ability to do (and I doubt that they will add when they implement preroll again someday) is the Undo while recording feature. When you hit Undo during recording in AA, it does nothing. In Studio One, it stops recording, clears what you just recorded, and places the playhead right back where you originally put it (where you wanted to punch in). This is great when you botch a retake, and want to quickly go back. No repositioning the playhead, and no wasted time deleting or undoing what you recorded.
I'm stickin' with Studio one for now. |

You just set the cursor where you want to "roll" from Jason in Audition (Mix only) so really the only difference is no pre-loaded roll time from where you set your cursor or in this case the highlighted portion of the track you want to re-record.
Go to Mix View. Highlight the portion of the wave you want to re-record. Arm the Record button. Set your marker by dragging to where you want it to begin playing before Record kicks in (this becomes your roll). Record ends at end of highlighted portion of wave. Perfect? no, but it works. _________________ jonahcummings |

being the uneducated hillbilly that i am - i have always used the "punch" with no "roll" method in AA. not knowing that i was doing it "wrong" i had no idea that it wouldn't "work", and, subsequently, it has "worked" very well for me for many years. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

I feel like I'm watching a Japanese movie with no subtitles.
If i was younger, I'd be embarrassed. Now I'm just sleepy.
I hope I don't have to learn this stuff but at least I know the right people to copy off of when its time for the test. _________________ - Peter
