Wow, Corey, amazing workflow you've come up with for yourself! Not sure if it's overly complex, but I can say I wouldn't recommend Cubase to any VO I actually want to keep happy Wink
I do admire the creativity, though.

Makes me think about the room-tone layering idea...
Rather than have to paste room-tone when silencing a breath, why not loop a segment of room tone and mix-paste it over the entire track after editing is finished? In theory, if your room-tone level is low enough, it shouldn't create an audible change in noise floor during the voice recording.
Hmmmm, how to loop in TwistedWave...

Then again the Clip List in TwistedWave couldn't possibly make it easier to paste room-tone over breaths or other unwanted sounds. You can preset pieces in the Audible defaults lengths like .5 sec and 3.5 secs.

Oh, I'd be the first to admit Cubase probably isn't the best tool for most VOs. However, I personally love it becuse I'm a bit of a gearhead. I also dearly love its routing capabilities. I've done some pure magic with FX tracks that I would have torn my hair out without them.

As to the workflow, it probably sounds a lot more complex than it is once you do it. By pasting in all the room tone behind the main track, there's never any need to do anything else but cut and rarely drag the samples around. It goes remarkably fast and I'm very pleased with the results.

I have no idea how to make something like this work in SoundForge or ProTools, .

In ProTools:

Open memory locations window. Select the tracks you want on the left of the edit window Hit marker 1 in the memory locations window, hold down shift and hit marker 2..Area between markers is selected, then delete.

Save a room tone clip in your region list .. drag it into an adjacent track..drag the previously edited tracks with gaps down to the room tone track.. Beat Detective also does custom fades at each edit of your new track
