How many of you go through a routine of vocal warmups? If so, how often?

My vocal warmups consist of about an hour every morning hacking up pieces of my lung from smoking the day before......I find this very helpful especially combined with smoking a cigarette and drinking strong black coffee. I'm going to write a book praising the effectiveness of my vocal warm up technique. Laugh

dit dit dit dit dit... blue blue blue blue moon... dit dit dit dit dit...
ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba... ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba... danga dang dang...

During the run of the last play I was in, we'd all gather around (four of us) and recite this bit from the Mikado:

To sit in solemn silence in a dull, dark dock,
In a pestilential prison, with a life-long lock,
Awaiting the sensation of a short, sharp shock,
From a cheap and chippy chopper on a big black block!

Not terribly uplifting, but it gets the jaws moving.

I am not worthy...

Just did a VO workout with my friend Beverly Bremers out of Orange County - and will ask her if I can add some of her warm up exercises to my pages.

The quickest warm up I know is to count to 25 slowly and over enunciate.

If you don't warm up ahead of time, you will have to stop in mid-session and do SOMETHING!

I crank up the stereo on my drive to work @ 2 am and sing along. I'm usually warmed up and almost awake by the time I get there.

Actually, I follow the "Harpo Marx theory for practice"--
When Zeppo told him he needed to practice piano for the big show, Harpo replied, "I'a practica everyday. I soaka my hands in warm water for a thirty minutes everya day."

I soaka my tounge in warm fluids every day.

"The Art of Voice Acting" has some good tongue twisters and warm-ups. Ditto for "Voice and the Actor" by Cicely Berry, and there are tongue-twister websites all over the internet. I do tongue twisters (with a cork between my teeth) every day, and also the breathing exercises from "Voice and the Actor"....being a fitness/workout devotee, I figure it's no differenct when it comes to your voice and vocal performance.
