I've searched thread topics, and didn't see anything about this...

An ongoing problem I've had is that my studio cpu which is Win/7-64
will not recognize a wired Ethernet connection, meaning my internet connection is done via a USB adapter picking up a wifi signal...OK for general use, but not for using Source-connect...

I currently do an SC session using an old laptop (with XHobo Happy which uses the wired connection..but the laptop is noisy, and of course I have to disconnect the interface from the desktop and connect to the laptop..

Is there some sort of driver, or patch that will make Win-7 recognize ethernet?

Windows 7 should work with most Ethernet devices out of the box. It's probably a configuration problem with your network or maybe the device is disabled for some reason.

What Corey said.

Win7 should recognize a hardwired ethernet connection on its own. Check the device manager in your control panel for Exclamation .... Which would indicate a configuration issue or disabled device.

Also try the networking wizard. Most issues can be solved by Win7 on its own.
