Finally got around to getting some recycled denim insulation, and built a couple of panels for a "quiet corner"...here's a before & after file..

THAT is what I likes ta hear! That totally knocked down quite a bit of the reflection. Not 100%, but you are way better than you were before the panels. How many panels and how thick?

I did a pair of 2x4 panels flanking a 1x4 panel in the corner, I got the "2 thickness..I'm hoping another few panels will knock the noise floor down a few more db..I'll post pics soon..

A marked difference! Who would have thought that old jeans could be used so effectively Smile

As for the ceiling... my basement studio has a dropped ceiling with 4'x2' standard tiles. After talking to (the sadly departed) Mike Sommer, I replaced three of these with 2" OC703 panels, and the difference was noticeable. I'm sure that a denim "cloud" will make yours even better!

Steve,

Sounds great! Did you frame your panels, or just hang 'em "freestyle?"

For what it's worth, here's one of my favorite "quiet corner" setups.
http://vostudiotech.com/eldoblog/2012/5/30/anna-luxs-foldable-voice-over-booth-installatio.html

That's built with ATS Acoustics panels and custom built panels to match, which use Roxul AFB. Looking back I realize it was a bit overkill, but Anna took it with her to her next home and still loves using it.

Dampening a larger room always sounds better than dampening a closet or small booth, no doubt about it.

I am surprise that the 2" worked so well. I'm half tempted to remove my 4" rockwool panels, and go with some of that. I have big traps, in the corners, but the extra space would be nice...especially with my low ceiling.

What'd ya cover them with?

Hey so George, do those side panels fold over to make an enclosed space for the corner or do they stay open when she's working? Are they hinged? And are the wings, as they seem to me to be, are they mounted from the ceiling or the wall? It looks great!

a bit ot ... regarding reusable denim, a friend of mine suggested i stockpile a bunch and stuff it between the rafters in the basement of my turn-of-the-century house, to reduce draft through the floorboards (3 subfloor layers !)

Pam, yes they hinge and completely enclose the space. They are mounted from the walls, nothing touches the floor. It can be folded against the wall when not in use, too. It was quite a project, but the results "speak" for themselves.
