OK, let me throw the full list on the table. LOL It will help me explain this....

Index(100%)

Relevancy(50%)=
Language Demo (25%)
Voice Gender and Age (10%)
Pre-, post-, and production services (10%)
Demo voice category (4%)
Demo Additional Accent(5%)

Priority (50%) =
Pref. Talent (25%)
QA Approved (10%)
Audition Ranking (25%)
Pref. Talent Popularity (10%)
Exposure Priority (30%)
Expiration Proximity (10%)
Profile Seniority (5%)

The numbers look simple, but there are factors underneath them that have to do with the frame of the website...

For example, Lee Gordon has a great profile, for these reasons:

Language Demo - He has a demo in My Demos that backs up what he checked off in Voice Details

Voice Gender and Age (10%) - self-explanatory, and same thing applies, he has a demo in My Demos to back it up in Voice Details.

Pre-, post-, and production services (10%) Same explanation as before.

Demo voice category (4%) - Same explanation as before

Demo Additional Accent(5%) - He checked off boxes for 'accent

Priority (50%) =
Pref. Talent (25%) - He's preferred by many

QA Approved (10%) - He's always approved. Its not like we dont know him. LOL

Audition Ranking (25%) - He has a great ranking average

Pref. Talent Popularity (10%) - I dont know what type of jobs specifically , but he is on a few preferred lists

Exposure Priority (30%) - he's selective

Expiration Proximity (10%) - his subscription has been around a while

Profile Seniority (5%) - he has been on the site a while.

So, basically, the fact that he has demos to back up what he can do, has experience, ranks well, preferred by many, and is familiar with the site...makes him a match to get invited first for jobs that suit what he does best.

Many times, when I am asked why a person is not invited or invited later than others, the reasons are related to the following:

1. They were missing something from the profile.
2. The seeker checked some sort of option that opted them out from hearing some people, like geographical requirements, unions, etc.
3. The usage of "AND" meant the talent had to have both
4. Accidental budget filter opt out
5. Email issue, meaning the email did not arrive, but the person was invited.

There are so many tiny things that come into play.

I guess you have to see it. I am doing this webinar tomorrow, if you want to see. http://voicethedream.com/2013/01/09/new-voice123-webinar-for-voiceover-industry-every-friday-in-2013/

Thanks for the detailed explanation, Steven. I've been looking for answers to many of these questions. This makes it a bit clearer.

+1 to what Mel said. I have already scribbled out my action plan to fill in some of the blanks (missing demo types etc.)

Where the system fails is the "Bollocks factor". As the Former Queen of Denmark I am able to say without fear of abdication that most VOs wouldn't know the truth if it were painted blue, weighed 37 kilograms, smelled of an Egptian mud wrestler and was dropped on them by a Lativian Giant Lemon Drizzle Cake fly from 42,000ft (AMSL).

Yes a VO may have "ticked the box" but none of the information provided is verified except for the ability to cough up the membership dosh.

What Gasp

Are you implying that VO talent knowingly misrepresent themselves... or at the minimum, are completely self-delusional about their capabilities!

Hmmm... you may have a point....

I think that's the foundation of why people use the Internet to begin with:

They get to believe they can do anything they want, or can create personas to make themselves feel more important.

However, in the end...yes...the cream rises to the top ie. Those who work hardest, and have the skills, know how to pay the bills.

I agree with Philip btw, but given we have refund policies, and very heavy screening of demos that are uploaded, including profiles, I am ok with my conscience. We have now 6 voice talent on staff and they all go through culture shock the first day of work, asking me, "WOW! I had no idea people try to upload things like this!".

And we take punches for telling people they shouldnt be delusional. HAHA!

So if I have uploaded stuff and it has gotten past the QA, then I am ahead of the game over the "I had no idea people try to upload things like this!" crowd.

Cool. Small victories here folks.

I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and doggone it, people like me!

All very interesting stuff! I genuinely did not know about the QC dept, in fact it was probably news to them!

Taking everything written in this thread I have concluded that the only people dragging "market rates" down are the people dumb enough to work for them.

Now I am not a man to identify a problem without coming up with a solution so I suggest a cull. Not figuratively speaking, I mean a real cull.

Let's do it humanely. On NatGeoDiscoveryHD3D there is a series called "Meet the Hutterites". All we have to do is sit people in front of a TV and make them watch every episode then 13 hours later drag their lifeless bodies and put them in the audience for the Rikki Lake show where they will not be noticed for several years.

That's funny Graeme............I am encouraged though, that you are one of the last men I know that still has control of the remote in their house. Let me thank you now for being part of the last bastion of manhood in the world.

Leslie - the only time I have the control of the remote is during the day when Aarin is not here, which of course is when she suspects me of watching Gerry Springer rather than doing anything productive ... At night our tv is tuned to the Oprah Network. I should try and get that promo gig - I know all of the shows Smile
