Did you know that the richest 100 people in the world have enough wealth to change the lives of every poor person in the world 5 times!
The richest family (Mexican Telecomms business) are worth $69 billion. Most of the poor people in the world live off less than 69p (69 British pence) per day.
Within a week of each other Mother Teresa of Calcutta and Diana Princess of Wales died. The former left a lasting legacy, a bowl, a spoon and a spare Saree whereas Diana's "estate" required a few years and a latrine load of lawyers to unravel.
For the last couple of years I have been doing a Mother Teresa on my life and it has proved tough. Complicated is simple yet getting from complicated to simple is ...complicated, tough and you soon discover that most people who claim to "support you" ...Don't. In the words of Capn Hook "I am able to count the number of friends I have on the fingers of my right hand". Moving from delusion to reality is tough!
If you ignore the hyperbole you'll see that every step I take is my step into a richer life not a life of riches ... It's tough. really tough but I'm enjoying it. |

.........and now a photo (artistic) of a microphone. As the message the photographist is conveying revelates itself you may be moved to tears ...It's ok.

Living simply takes focus.
Living comfortably takes money.
It's a shame the latter all too often confounds the former. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

A week or so ago members of Parliament over here were asked about how much they should earn, they are public sector employees. A recent announcement made by the government capped all pay rises for public sector employees at 1%. For themselves the figure was 32%
First step for me was to establish how much I needed.
Second step was to set the comfort level.
Third step was to see if I could resonably expect to hit that level if a big client dropped off the radar.
I take on new clients to dilute the influence certain businesses could have on my life. I walk away from some jobs for much the same reason. |

Trying to downsize your life can be a challenge.
When we moved out of the house we lived in for 16 years I got rid of a TON...very nearly literally... a TON of stuff.
The garbage men must have hated us.
And yet...there is still too much.
Now that we are looking for a new home...we realize that the fact that we are looking for a small house is a challenge in itself.
We do not need or want 5 bedrooms 4 bathrooms and 3000sq feet.
We don't need stainless steel appliances.
We want small home, three bedrooms at the most;
1.5 baths is fine...small yard. (& yes...ISDN availabaility)
Those are the homes that seem to belong to the "elderly" who are moving to live with kids or nursing homes...and they are also the homes that builders are snapping up for the land, to knock down and build a McMansion on that they'll sell for 3 times the price.
...or the kids are being advised by the real estate broker to hold put for the most they can get.
I get it....but it had been so frustrating.
We've looked at townhomes, but nothing that speaks to us.
I have been going through the stuff that's here here in the house upstate that we are living in temporarily....most of it is my parent's "stuff"....of not great monetary value....but emotionally it can be tough....I am slowly getting to the point of realizing that it is just "stuff" and that the memories are what's important...
I'm TRYING to focus on what we need...and hoping to mesh that with what we want/would like.

I, too, would prefer a small-ish, more cozy abode over something a 787 could land (or remain grounded) in.
Finding such a house, though, would probably require first locating an excellent independent contractor to build it to our specifications.
McMansions are gaudy things to begin with, but are even more so when they are squeezed into communities of normal-sized homes, as so many shamelessly tasteless people have done. Ah, well... there goes the neighborhood.
Bitterman, take me through the park... _________________ Mike

20 years ago, we got lucky, and bought the smallest house in a mature neighborhood....
We took our time, and turned it into a gem.
A few years ago, a weasel bought the empty lot across the street....
And built a brick McMansion..... In a neighborhood of classic Cape Cods.
My wife spends her nights plotting murder and firebombings.
