|
|
Hey there, I need two different pop filters for different applications, so I'm looking for advice.
First, I need a pop filter for a Sennheiser 416. Now I believe that some say a pop filter isn't needed with the 416 if positioned properly. But in my particular application - housed inside of a Porta-Booth for travel (and for an IVR client who demands consistency), I can only position my 416 straight on and level since there isn't enough room to maneuver in the booth.
Secondly, I'm looking for a pop filter that has a different sort of attachment than most do, which are designed to attach to a mic stand pole. I need something I can clip on my Porta Booth, or that can be attached to a desktop. I find that the traditional design pop filter won't stay on securely when I try to attach them to a desk.
Both of these pop filters (can I kill two birds with stone?) would be mostly for travel purposes, so I'm hoping to not spend a lot of money. Thanks for your ideas! _________________ Best regards,

I know of one that might be just the treat -- but unfortunately, the exorbitant price is exactly what you weren't hoping for... Here it is for your sticker-shocked enjoyment:

UPDATE: For some reason the former link is now dead. I've replaced it with one directly from the manufacturer, but the price isn't listed there. It currently retails for $185.00. _________________ Ben Stovall Voiceover

Tom - I've ordered that exact pop filter from the Chinese vendor. It's very well made, and a great value, but sadly doesn't fit a 416. Well, technically the mic will fit into it, but the mount sits half way up the mic, not down where it's supposed to. Not a workable solution. It's made for for a KM84 style mic - shorter, and no interference tube. _________________ Graeme Spicer

Gotcha, thanks Graeme! I was afraid it'd be too short for a 416. Bummer. _________________ Best regards,

That's interesting George - I'll try to contact the vendor. It certainly looks like the double pop-screens I've seen on 416s before. Not sure just how it attaches though, which maybe a deal breaker. _________________ Best regards,

Tom.... It appears to clomp to the wire cage. (I blew it up til I could see it.)
If you're using a suspension mount, you should be able to make it work. _________________ Don Brookshire

Tom - I've owned one of those too a pr-40 was my very first mic. The pop filter is proprietary. Fits really nicely on the Heil pop filter, but doubt verb much it would attach easily to anything else. I'm the bearer of bad news today. _________________ Graeme Spicer

Looks like I may have found one, from Popless Voice Screens:
http://www.popfilter.com/vac-s6.htm
It's the VAC-S3.5, and the vendor said he;d include a longer gooseneck to accommodate the length of the 416. Thanks for all your help, guys! _________________ Best regards,

Tom, I've got one of these and it works well though I wish I'd gotten the longer gooseneck for a bit more flexibility. _________________ Bob Ransom

I know and have worked with Brian (the owner at Popless) on a number of live events. He's a stand-up guy who stands by his products.
Glad he could find a sutable solution for you!

Thanks for all of your helpful comments! I've ordered the VAC-s3.5 with a longer gooseneck as a free add-on (Bob, you might want to see if you can buy one separately). _________________ Best regards,
