Just read something written by a fellow British VO who has been doing the job for roughly the same length of time as me and I believe it will help us all focus, today and every day.

I'm not impressed by 'getting' a job now, only the ££££( $$$). This is not a hobby of mine.

I'm a relative newcomer to VO, but not to life/business/whatever. VO is like a lot of other competitive businesses where you have to convince, impress, win, negotiate, deliver, bid, perform, stand on one leg and shimmy to get the job. If you ever lose the joy or the satisfaction of doing that in any job and just concentrate on the money, then (if at all possible) it's time to change jobs. This is not a hobby... but I can still love what I do and enjoy the competitive nature of it... and yes, even impress myself once in a while.

Or, was this Philip being clever and posting a crap quote to get us thinking?

Very important to understand what has been said (written).

"not impressed" does not mean the writer is unhappy, weary, a bread head, depressed, joyless. Were that the case then it would be time to move on.

I know a number of VOs who are simply IMPRESSED by getting a job and there are countless producers out there who score big time by getting Ego discounts
