I don't usually worry about a stand or shock-mount if I'm traveling light. Maybe it's my engineering background, but I've never been at a loss as to how to mount a mic in an emergency. It's amazing what you can do with a coat-hangar and the other stuff that litters a hotel room!

Interesting that not a single person has even mentioned the Harlan Hogan mic.

That is interesting. I thought I remembered that he'd let you try it with no strings attached. Hes even got a VO1 USB package now.

Anyone used a CAD e100 MkII?

For what it's worth, and I don't think I'm alone, I have a dislike of anything "branded" in such a way. There are plenty of other very good MXL mics without paying for someone's name plastered all over it. I understand it has a good reputation and may well be a very good mic for the price... but I think the majority of the people here may be more inclined to find their own way rather than buy a "celebrity" endorsement. It's a tad "tacky" I think... but, it's probably just me.

Jeffrey, I've been considering an HH mic because I actually got a chance to test one once and it sounded very nice. The celebrity name on it doesn't affect me -- to be honest, I didn't know who he was until I stumbled across the mic and then had to look him up. The name doesn't influence me (whether it's Brand Hogan or Brand Neumann or whoever); the sound does.

The HH name means nothing to me, too. But if its the best mic in that price range, then I'll buy it despite the name.

Best reason for buying a mic I have ever heard was given by Beau Weaver. He pointed at a Manley Reference mic and said he bought it because it looked cool.

Your mic like your preamp should be invisible.

I will give a thumbs-up the Harlan Hogan mic. A few years ago a former radio colleague decided to give VO a try and asked me for mic recommendations. At the time, several people whose opinions I respect had some good things to say about the HH, although I hadn't personally tried it. I passed that info on to my friend, along with a couple of mics I was familiar with. Since it was the least expensive, he decided to go with Harlan's mic. When it arrived, he sent me a test recording and I thought it sounded so good, I decided to get one for myself.

It's not fancy, but it does a good job of making me sound like me, so I'm happy with it.
