Interestingly enough, when I mentioned underwater welding 18 years ago, it was something few people even thought about. Today, there is an explosion, with tons of schools and programs dedicated towards teaching every aspect.
She has job security, incredible health benefits, 2 months vacation, the ability to set her own schedules, no marginalization in her craft and will be retiring soon with a whopping pension. (By the way, the 1,0000th person on the list of underwater welders is most certainly making over $100,000 per year (and that is as an employee, which is like making $150,000+ as an independent contractor)
Sorry, while there may be opportunities in underwater welding, it looks however that (as with voice over) most will be around 18 years too late to really reap the rewards. _________________ j.s. gilbert

When I was many years younger, I worked for my old man, who sold oilfield equipment in Houston. Too many nights spent in the oilfields repairing pumps, valves, busted flanges, and what-not.....
The money was great, but the smell of crude doesn't wash off at the end of the day.... We used to call that "Shell No5". _________________ Don Brookshire

After I got out of the Army I considered being a smoke jumper, but went into software instead. I made a TON of money there, because 1994 was about the right time to be a young man who spent his youth geeking out on computers.
But now I do what I love, even if it doesn't pay as well yet. I'm much happier for it. _________________ Corey "Vox Man" Snow

I had an offer to fix helicopters in Saudi Arabia after the AirForce... so glad I'm doing what I'm doing now.
They would have hunted me down with pitchforks in that country.
I love what I do. Every day is a freakin' adventure. _________________ Company, villainous company, hath been the spoil of me...

I am incapable of telling people about my 'job' without simultaneously knocking on wood (most often my head) in recognition of how bewildered yet grateful I am to be able to do this. _________________ www.thevoiceover.com.au |
