email from a major client (paraphrased)

client emails: in this 6821 word narration you have over 200 pickups. could you please review and tell me what the problem is?

todd's stomach sinks through the floor.

todd reviews script/audio, scratches his head

client emails a few minutes later: oh, never mind, i was looking an an old script revision.

heart still beating just a bit quicker than it should.

Ugh...I could feel my own stomach dropping as I was reading that. I am VERY glad it turned out alright.

I believe that may call for a cold one. Cheers!

Think of the poor shmoo who had to go through and identify 200 pickups, just to end up hearing "never mind".

I had the EXACT same problem last week on an audiobook. Audible sent a Hobo LaughingF, I requested an ePub from the publisher. Audibles QC logged a bunch of errors because their Hobo LaughingF wasn't the final edit of the book.

I have had this happen more than once over the years so I developed a little trick to help the producer, the QC folks, and me. I title the files with the script version (XXXXXX 1.4 final ver 2, etc.). For some clients which offer numerous changes consistently; I also send back a copy of the script I work from. It helps, but still doesn't stop the heart palpation's.

Now just breathe in....... Hold it!!!! ......... Let it go now...... and breathe in.......

Probably nothing. The audiobook would have shipped without anyone ever noticing the 40+ discrepancies between the audio and the print/ebook versions.

True dat. I mean who besides the QC editor ever reviews audio and print versions side by side? Maybe a recent immigrant trying to learn the language? It might confuse them a bit, but that's nothing compared to the total confusion of trying to be an in-sync American.
