Meanwhile, if you open "My Computer, click on View System Information, and go to the "Automatic Updates" tab, you can uncheck "Automatic Updates" and take your choice of "Download updates but let me choose when to install them," "Notify me but don't automatically download or install them" (that's the one I use), or "Turn off Automatic Updates."
That's how it's done in XP. It may be different in Win7, but probably not
radically different.
By the way, I still use Cool Edit because I've never found any compelling reason to upgrade. For time compression and noise reduction, I find Audacity works a little bit better, so when I need one of those functions I port it over to Audacity, then export it back.
The only time I've ever experienced glitches like you described is when I have several other programs open AND Carbonite is working in the background. So I usually pause Carbonite whenever I might be recording. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

ahhhh, good point about Carbonite, Lee! I never considered that. But oddly enough, I still get NONE of those glitches in CE Pro. And since the disastrous update, I have unchecked the "automatic update" option. _________________ Scott R. Pollak
