Hi All!

These are the magic box of voodoo for a 416... Or any mic for that matter. Ask around if you are unfamiliar with the Aphex 651 and mod.

Would anyone be interested in one of these for a reasonable price? I have an opportunity to purchase two of these already modded but I only need one. The seller wants $350 each but I think I can get the pair for a little less maybe ~$300 each. They are in great condition with the exception of a little screw hole rash.

Here is the normal cost breakdown: The mod from Audio Upgrades of the 651 costs $150 plus shipping both ways; plus the purchase of a good used 651 for say $250 plus shipping. Here is your chance to get a modded 651 by Jim Williams himself for a fair bit less. ~$300 vs $400+

Please pm me if you are interested. I have to make a decision by Sat at the latest.

Bob

I'd be up for it but I think the 651 is not dual voltage. Hope you'll correct me if I'm wrong, but if it will take 240v, then count me in (I'll cover shipping to the UK obviously)

You are correct. It is not switchable.

Sorry... =(

But I've another idea...

PM'd you Bob

Jim's upgrade is quieter than the stock unit, crystal clear - it's also got less harmonic distortion than any other compressor available. You won't know you've got a compressor in the chain unless you're pumping the hell out of it.

Bob sold the Aphex to me and it's come back from Jim Williams - he had to mod it for 240 volts. All I can do is smile. Paired with Jim's HSMP it's a forever-mic-chain.

So far I've only had a little playtime with an AKG C414EB - can't wait to hear it on a 416 later today.

Thanks to Kevin G and Bob for getting me into this combo. Now all I need is another one!

Your Welcome Dayo! Glad you like it.

I have named my 651 "the magic box of voodoo".

Dayo, I did not get my Gordon. The seller started having remorse and bailed on the deal. =( I am still in the market.

However, I did find a GREAT deal locally on a Paintpot to get me by. WONDERFUL piece of kit. 72 db of gain, headroom for days, sooooo quiet, sonically black, precise and unforgiving. Me like.

I am still hunting a used Gordon with a 416 and M930ts still on my shopping list. Have an itch for a Aphex 612 as well.

Think I need to go to a GAS anonymous meeting...

Bob
