It is time for a microphone upgrade.

I don't have enough shekels left in the purse to purchase the mic I really want, a Gefell m930ts, after my recent Gordon pre purchase. Smile The Lawson L47MP MK II gives me goosebumps too but the wallet is too shallow for this as well.

Figured I would step up to a better mid range mic while I wait for the bankroll to rejuvenate.

Are there any L47FET users around? Any comments on the L47FET for a male baritone type voice?

Thanks!

Bob

Hi Bob

Probably not very helpful this, but I had a Lawson L47 MPII for about a year. It's a fine mic but ultimately I gave up on it. I seem to recall the sound was just too massive for my booth at the time - you don't always want to sound like Darth Vader. I do remember that in A/B tests a 416 beat it hands down.

But on your voice, in your room.... who knows?

As for the FET version, I kinda wish I'd tried it. I used to do a lot of work back in the day on Neumann U47 FET mics and they always sounded groovy and distinctive.

How's the Gordon?

Kara LOVES LOVES her Lawson. That said, Kara's signature is about as far from male baritone as one can get.

Look for her on FB - follow the puppy pix.

my experience with the Lawson tube mic was similar to Dayo's

Haven't tried the FET but would think it would be a better choice for VO

Kara- You sound lovely on that L47FET! Great mic for you.

Dayo - Rob - My findings are turning up the same.

I already have problems burying the low freqs on most mics. Wired on coffee I am a tenor, relaxed a baritone, after a few gins a basso. I can give Johnny Cash a run after a few gins. Smile No angled at my chest mics for me unless I'm 10 feet away..

Me thinks I am going to invest in some cortizone itch cream and wait for the rainy day fund to fill til I can purchase the M930Ts.

Then again.... I have never tried a 416...

Dayo - The Gordon is almost here... will let you know.

Thank you all for your insights!

Bob
