Ah...ok, I see. If it can be adjusted as much as that, I think that would be fine then. _________________ We have nothing to fear but fear itself.

Also Doug, that picture you posted of your mic today in that Facebook group was also helpful in seeing how you did it. Thanks! _________________ We have nothing to fear but fear itself.

The PSA-1 is great...but it sure won't hang from the ceiling. |

Again, from the Hacks, a great article on avoiding mic-arm sound transfer:

Always interesting and a good tip resource, every little bit helps! _________________ "Dammit Jim, I'm a voice actor, not an audio engineer!"

You are looking for the Luxo 50003. I order them 5 at a time as they are hard to find and I need them for the installs I do often. I just ordered some Chinese mic arms on Ebay, two shipped from Shanghai for total of $47 today. Let you know if they are any good. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

I got the mic arms from China
They are smaller than any arm if this type I've had, so nice for wall mounting in cramped spaces. They are made of aluminum, so very light (not sure if that's a good thing). I wouldn't hang a 3-4lb mic from it, but it's holding an AT3035 just fine.
Here's a totally different design, I also have this and find it actually works very well and holds position while allowing change of mic position with a tug at will. No springs at all to make noise.
He will sell you a wall mount kit for it for $15, too. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

I recently picked up a QM-50 arm from Q-mic, and I'm very happy with it. The cable that comes with it ain't too bad, but I cut it out and replaced it with my own. _________________ "Dammit Jim, I'm a voice actor, not an audio engineer!"

I repurposed a restaurant/cafe table with a really heavy small diameter base by attaching a 13" x 13" top, and bolting one of those Heil R-S1 risers to it, which holds the Luxo arm (actually repurposed from a dead Luxo lamp!). This facilitated better mounting for a Shure SM7b for longform, with a smaller footprint than a tripod stand/boom combination. It is not coupled to the wall, and gives good isolation with the heavy base. Plus it gives me a place to put my water. And I can move it!

Has anyone found a sprung mic boom which has springs that don't ring?
I have an OC White Pro Boom which came highly recommended, but nevertheless I can hear the springs ringing on more energetic reads. I've managed to damp them down with pipe lagging, but the look is yeuch.
Sorry to hijack, but maybe it's a point worth making? _________________ Colin Day - UK Voiceover

And old trick bass players use is a small square of felt under the string, (or in this case spring) dampens vibration. I could picture this being done very neatly and unobtrusively, using something like a stick on piece of heavy duty felt that one might get at a home supply store to stick on the bottom of something so it doesn't scratch a table. These are about 2 inches long and maybe a half inch wide by a quarter inch thick. The springs on my arm are encased in plastic piston like things, and I haven't noticed them ringing. Don 't know if anything else is in there. _________________ Nate Cimmino:

For a future purchase I can tell you that my Luxo mic arms have been quite silent for a dozen years now.
