anticipating a trip to europe in november 2014 (daughter's international tour with her school choir), is it at all advantageous to accept payment in euros from my international clients, and keep that euro balance in my paypal account? i realize the value fluctuates; i'd like your opinion on this and what you would do.

thanks!

Value only fluctuates in relation to other currencies. So if you need 200 Euro and you have 200 Euro then you have the 200 Euro you need. If you don't already have one get a Paypal Debit/charge card... very useful indeed.

So this is a mini-threadjack of sorts, but not egregious. And it's something I've been wondering about lately. Inoccent

From your positive mention of the PayPal debit cards, Philip, Lee, and Bob, I am inferring that you guys maintain significant funds in your PayPal accounts and don't necessarily transfer much out to, say, a separate business checking account. True? I'm interested in thoughts on how folks handle this in general.

Can't speak for the others but you've described how I do it. I deposit incoming checks into a bank account but leave the PayPal funds in the PayPal account. Then, assuming there's enough in there, I use the PayPal card for day-to-day expenses like gas and food. I've also used it for significant portions of my Faffcon expenses and plan to use it to purchase all the materials for the VO booth I'm building.

At tax time, I print out a full report of all the year's transactions and earmark the ones that were deductible expenses as well as any non-1099 income.

And, as an aside, am I the only one who first looked at the subject of this thread and saw "Papal Currency" and wondered what the heck the Pope had to do with any of this? cool

A big deal would be a sports car and a cruise, not an occasional tank of gas and a seat on Southwest Airlines.
