Alrighty! I have both interfaces at the moment, and so I thought I'd do an A/B. My initial findings show that the Balance is slightly (I'm talking 1-2db) noisier than the Duet 2. Tonally, I don't know which I like better. I DEFINITELY like the physical interface of the Balance WAY better. Plus it has actual jacks instead of having a dreadlock connector. I'll let you listen to the sample, and determine for yourself!

Tough call. They're both excellent pieces of kit.
For me, it was the ergonomics.... And to my ears, slightly less clinical. YMMV. _________________ Don Brookshire

To me, user interface trumps sound quality every time when it comes this close... When I can call a client and say "turn this knob" and not "what version of Maestro are you running?" and so on, everyone wins. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

I've pretty much got my mind made up... I will give it a couple weeks though. Either way, I'll be keeping a great interface and selling a great interface. I've got a huge project this weekend, so I'll have plenty of time to form an informed opinion. |

Very excited about the SPL Crimson coming next month, which takes the Balance concept and jacks it up another notch with more I/O and monitoring functions. Getting damn close to the ultimate VO studio device for those with an ISDN codec! _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

The only thing I understood in that post, George was "those with and ISDN codec" so..... why is this such a good thing for "those with an ISDN codec"? |

Melissa, I mean the ability to eliminate a complex and bulky audio mixer like a Mackie 1202 from an ISDN user's home studio... Less is better. The Propellerhead Balance can't quite do that, but that SPL Crimson with more flexible monitoring will. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

Nice specs, George....
And with USB 2.0 compliance.... This could be Android compatible, too.
Have they set a price point, yet? _________________ Don Brookshire

That is killer looking interface! If it sounds as good as it looks, that really would be a workable solution. What does the ISDN studio user need that the balance can't do? It has only two channels...but each channel can have 4 different sources plugged into it, and can be chosen at the push of a button. Definitely doesn't have as many outputs, but a headphone amp would cure that. |

Sam Ash and GC Pro? Pretty much anywhere.
And Sound Pure in Durham? Local.
Can't wait to check it out. Thanx. _________________ Don Brookshire
