Moi!
Been really wresting with finding a good solution to improving my ad/da converter situation and have come up with 3 possible solutions.
My mac mini crashes and I suspect it might have to do with the firewire connection.
Someone has an Apogee mini-me for sale for a reasonable price. The new SPL Crimson also is a converter but I do not know how good the converters are yet!
The RME seems to be very good but it is the most expensive option.
Any and all thoughts are appreciated.
Thanks!

I've played with a mini-me, and thought it sounded great and was solidly built, but I don't think Apogee is supporting it any longer (firmware, drivers, etc)?
George Whittam has been talking about the SPL Crimson, but I don't think it has shipped yet.
RME - a friend has a Babyface, and it sounds really good, but it's not better than an Apogee Duet or Focusrite Forte, and I don't think most of us really have need for all of the extra I/O. The bigger RME units start to cost real coin. _________________ Graeme Spicer

Hei Graeme,
Thanks for the information
I understand that the mini-me is no longer supported but I have read great things about it. If it will work with a mac it might be worth it.
One company in Germany, with whom I have done business with in the past, shows that they have the Crimson in stock. Did not know it hasn't been shipped yet (not in stock yet, just heard)
The RME ADI-2 is about € 550 here in europe.
The Crimson might be the best option but I guess I have to wait a little longer.

What's wrong with current AD/DA? Is it the weakest link in the system? Is your noise-floor and acoustics optimal already? _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

Hei George!
Why is a change needed? The noise floor is about -70 dB and the room is fine.
Yes, the audio interface is the weakest link in my chain. My mac mini crashes more than would be expected, and I suspect that the firewire connection might have something to do with that.
There are sometimes artifacts in my recordings and I wonder if it has something to do with the interface.
The Crimson should solve those problems in addition to adding a mixer into the chain.
Have a friend who has the ADI-2 and his chain is very, very clean and good sounding.
Then the Apogee mini-me showed up at a reasonable price. (But will it work with OS 10.8?
Thanks for your thoughts.
