Doing quite a lot of batch processing and need to use a different computer that has AA3 on it. Been using AA1 on regular editing tower. Transferred the settings exactly and getting different results. Not good results. Weird sort of gating sound. Beginnings of words sound like they have guick fade up. Not there using same settings in AA1. Must have something to do with attack settings?

So looking for some help in tweaking the settings a bit. The pitfalls of not being an audio engineer. Don't know which way to adjust the numbers.

Actually, this is the second processing that sounds different in AA3. The conversion from 44.1/16 to 8/16 intriduces lots of lisping in AA3 that is not present in AA1.

(There were two posts somehow, so I deleted one of them. )

First, a general observation. I first started with the old, old, old Cool Edit 96. (NOT Cool Edit Pro). I have used about 4 versions of Audition now. I think the "engine" under the hood that does the grinding and crunching of digital values has improved tremendously through the years.

Some upgrades of Audition do reach back to grab and install you customized settings if possible. That does not always work well. What I choose to call "the pseudo macro language" is changing a bit each time.

Even when keeping your work within one version of Audition, there are times when I wake up to the fact that after some processing (compression? equalization? normalizing?) lisping gets enhanced or changed or introduced. I haven't figured out yet which door is the wrong door to open. (Sometimes an edit session seems like a game show!)

I do a lot of "save as" points. Rename the file: Edit-02, 03, etc. I have a book narration now on Edit 13. I never enjoy going back to the original and trying to recreate the previous 12 edits because I didn't save them.

I remember using the Expander/Gate and with a ratio of 2.0 playing with the threshold to add or subtract the gating..

or this.

I'll give that a try. But I really must have crashed AA1 - my batch processing simply doesn't work anymore. So I really have to get AA3 sounding "right."

I just re-installed AA1 and it is still crashing when trying to batch process. Just shuts down.
