I have a mark on my floor too. And I used to put a dot of nail polish on my MicPort Pro where the level knob would be pointed. _________________ Corey "Vox Man" Snow

I don't know if I'm the most qualified to comment on this as I don't follow the business model most here use. But here's my 2 cents. If you don't do the revision, they have to hire another actor at whatever their full rate is to record the entire project again. Why is there value in that actor's time and skills and not yours?? Is your career and relationship with this buyer so fragile that you risk never working for them again by doing a revision 2 weeks after the fact? A revision that is the buyer's fault???
Now, don't get me wrong, I do favors all the time. But I've never had a producer contact me 2 weeks after the fact and ask me to re record something the producer himself goofed on. And, I think people put value and respect on a talent who politely and professionally demands and expects it. If it pisses off a producer to be asked to pay for a talent's services, perhaps this isn't the kind of producer one should continue working for. Now, that said, years ago I had a great gig where I was the contracted promo voice for a major network. I was for all intents and purposes on call 24/7. I knew this going in, and was paid handsomely a monthly retainer for such last minute revisions. I had no problems as I was compensated for the extra work. And, from time to time I might have one of my regular imaging stations hit me with additional liners than our monthly agreement called for. Within reason I'll send back as I'm on retainer and it's never overwhelming. But if I'm asked to do what appears to be way beyond the duties of my monthly agreement, I then ask for more compensation. If I don't do it, they have to pay someone to do it. And I'll never ask for more than scale plus 10%. But dammit, I have a skill they need. And, I deserve to be paid fairly for it. So does every talent.
And don't put experience on respect. If you are brilliant, that brilliance has value. This was something I expected and demanded when I still paid most of my bills with day jobs. When it came to vo, I get paid my worth. That means at times you need to be willing to walk away from the job. Big risk. But I'd rather risk this way than perpetuate the bottom feeding that's so rampant in the business today. It's a far better career choice to grab a second night job than to devalue your talent. |
