Moi!

Recently I was asked to do some short announcements for a public event. There were about 6 short lines asking people to begin looking for their seats, and then an introduction for the speaker.

Turns out it was some kind political rally ( with at least 1 very well known politician in attendence).

This was not for broadcast - just within the auditorium.

What is that kind of work worth? What would you ask?

Mac

I don't have an answer to you "suggested priced" question, but the post is fascinating.

Who would be "hiring" you in this case: the organization that scheduled the meeting (maybe a local unit of a political party) or the facility?

Are other people doing gigs of this nature, or is this a very, very thin and episodic opportunity and market?

It sounds like a "Sit down, shut up, turn your phones off... and heeeeeere's Johnny!" type of thing.

If it's short and sweet (six lines)... I'd probably just use my minimum session fee. Unless anyone know differently, I don't see this attracting any premium. I'm assuming this is a record and forward, not a live announcing gig.... because that's a different story.

Slap 'em with $300~$500 and see if they blink... and if they're political... get the money up-front.

$200 if it's a politician you support,
$500 if it's a politician you oppose,

Either way, get the money up front.

Thanks for the feedback and thoughts.

It was the event organizer who contacted me after listening to my demo on a p2p site.

Did not know what type of event it was until after the fact. Never heard of the speaker before then.

Now I have a better handle on a reasonable price should the opportunity knock again.

if you're live, an hourly of $300 or more is good. if you're recording, an hourly of $300 or more is good.

... I'm detecting a theme here... Wink

Mind you, if it's live there's the possibility of travel time, hanging around time, and... Oh, you want something at the end as well... I'll be in The Green Room with the meter running.
