VO-BB - 20 YEARS OLD!

I've been living in the copywriter's Dark Ages.

In another post, Connie Terwilliger gave a link to an article she wrote. I noticed one of the points mentioned in the article was about ALL CAPS. So I did a search on the VO-BB and noticed how many of you hate (with a passion) the old ALL CAPS way of copywriting.

I write about 8-10 radio scripts per week and have been using ALL CAPS since my days of doing the local spot for NPR news in my first "real" radio gig (AP WIRE STYLE). For some reason, no one has ever mentioned to me that most VO folks consider this irritating (personally I've just never known better).

I hereby vow to change my evil ways.

DAVE, IT'S AWFULLY NICE OF YOU TO DROP THE ALL CAPS. NOW WE CAN MORE EASILY TELL WHAT'S A BRAND NAME LIKE FOSSIL WATCHES OR A PLACE NAME LIKE CONCRETE, WASHINGTON, AND YOU'LL SAVE KEYSTROKES WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE TO PUT PERIODS IN ACRONYMS LIKE THE DEA AND AMA. OF COURSE YOUR PINKY FINGERS WILL BE SORE FOR A WHILE AS YOU GET USED TO REACHING OUT FOR THOSE SHIFT KEYS, BUT IT'S A SMALL PRICE TO PAY FOR EXTRA READABILITY.
