Just picked up this plugin from Musician's Friend because it was on sale for $20, and I thought I'd post a test to see how it stands up to the mics it claims to be modeling. The only problem with this test being completely scientific is that I did my recording on an Oktavamod NT1a into a DBX 286a with no processing on other than the hipass...which isn't on their list of Source Mics. I used the Rode NT1 as my Source. I set the mic at 8" (which is where I normally set my mic) and did all of the Modeled Mics at the same.

https://soundcloud.com/inthishope/antaresmicmodefx-test

Here are the models in order:

1 - Source Sample - Raw Modded Rode NT1a
2 - Neumann U47
3 - Neumann U87 Gold
4 - Lawson L47
5 - Manley Gold Reference Mic
6 - Gefell UMT 800
7 - Telefunken TELE U47
8 - Neumann TLM103

I have my opinion, but won't pop that out quite yet. I'd love to hear from you guys who have actually used these mics.

Thanks!

not a believer in mic mod software myself, but for $20...hey WTF

I listened to the first few, and to me, it sounds like the original mic just being
EQ'd and processed in different ways

Save tens of thousands of dollars with a piece of $20 software Money Mouth

1) Agree with Rob
2) There's a reason they were pushing it out for $20

Now, it may be a nice thing to have to use as a bunch of equalizer pre-sets, (especially at the price) but labeling them as other mic emulations is slightly optimistic.

I think I'll fit a switch on my old Lexus... "Ferrari mode" Smile

That was my thought completely. It can definitely be used as a complex EQ, but I didn't expect (even when picking it uHobo Happy for it to make a Rode NT1a sound identical to a U47.
