Those of us who do the Voice123 thing have all likely gotten the ignominious "You Won't Be Considered" honor a time or two, but usually we share it with several others (i.e. "14 other people received the same ranking"). But this one stands out for me because I will not only not be considered, I was ranked dead last -- all by myself -- among all those (11) who were lucky enough to receive a ranking.

I'm so proud.

You certainly aren't alone Smile I got a private invite, and then received the same thing a couple months ago. Definitely makes you feel good about yourself. Either my demo really showed them something that I failed to deliver, or I was really off that day.

Trying to avoid an endless discussion... But I must ask...

What does Voice123 have to gain by posting a list of "also rans", and then pointing a demeaning finger of "... and you came in last!"

I fail to see that action as being one to bolster ones career.

Posting with EITHER of them.

Voices.com or Voice123.com...

... is definitely an exercise in humility.

Bailey, here's my take on it, and I've received a lot of "Finalist" rankings that never turned into a job, as well as enough "You won't be considered" rankings to make me stop and think.

I actually really like the ranking system. It gives you a barometer - whether it's good, bad, ugly or inaccurate - of how you're being perceived by the clients. And YES, granted, many of the seekers are truly just clueless! They'll rank you dead last only because your voice wasn't right for THEIR job, where in reality it reflects nothing on your abilities.

However, if you're auditioning a lot, like Lee and I do, and you get a lot of some type of rating - whether it's a high or a low one - it lets you know that either you're doing something right, or something wrong.

I've gone through periods where I would get a lot of 'not likely' ratings there and it made me take a step back to reassess whether I was truly choosing to audition for projects that were a good fit for me.

Right now I'm enjoying a lot of "Finalist" rankings (with no resultant jobs, btw) which makes me feel like I'm choosing well and auditioning well.

The irony, which I'll bet most active V123 talents will tell you, is that MOST of the jobs you get come from when you've received NO ranking at all!

The question I ask is how many auditions total for that casting? If there were 50, 75, 100 you still made the short list which puts you on the radar where the rest are not. While not right for this particular spot, maybe the future. Or if there were only 11 auditions total you may be out of luck Shocked

One thing to mention is that no one else can see your rankings. There isn't she list, it is just a gauge for your own information. It is actually helpful, as Scott mentioned, for analyzing ones own effectiveness to an extent.

How anyone could give someone a feedback equivalent to "I would prefer NEVER to hear another audition from you again". Is beyond ludicrous

Hei Lee,

I feel your pain! Recently auditioned for a job on 123 where I got the slap in the face - You won't be considered. (Have done enough work to know that my audition was not THAT bad). And 33 others got the same treatment!

So I wrote to the people at 123 and shared how UNfair this felt.

They contacted the client and educated them as to what that "rating" really meant, and before long it was changed to "Not likely". Which left me feeling slightly better than before.

Then today I noticed that the "Not Likely" got changed to Maybe!

Who knows, perhaps I will get the gig after all!

Yeah, I got a private invitation for a recruitment video for New Balance Shoes and then got a "Not Likely" ranking. I thought that was a bit rude. Wink He asked me to audition; I didn't seek him out. What I submitted was not appreciably different from what is demonstrated in my generic demos, which was, presumably, the basis upon which he invited me in the first place.

Of the two most recent jobs I've landed from Voice123, one of them had me ranked as "Finalist" and the other (the better gig of the two) did not rank me at all. And, by the way, I had to go back and look because I don't generally remember after the initial peek I take, just for curiosity. The one I posted above stood out only in the fact I had the honor of being in sole possession of dead last. Usually, I get to share that distinction with anywhere from one to dozens of others. And neither this "black mark" nor the fact that I apparently audition seven times more than the typical premium member prevented Voice123 from delivering well over a dozen invitations to my mailbox over the weekend.

This job originally called for 30 auditions but he closed it ahead of the deadline after receiving only 15. Of those, he listened to just 11. I guess, once he got to mine, he lost his will to live and just couldn't take it any more. Shocked
Regardless, for me and this particular producer there will be no "future" because the only actual consequence of a "You Will Not Be Considered" ranking is the person receiving it will never get another invitation to audition for future projects posted by the person who issued it.

Wouldn't it be better if Voice123 explained this stuff to the clients before they started using the system rather than after?

I'm more of a seeker on V123 than a talent. I never rate the talent's auditions. I don't see the benefit of it. I produce a lot of college sports commercials. It requires a certain style, some people have that and some don't. Doesn't mean you're not great.

I was recently contacted with a direct VO invitation. They liked my voice and wanted a very serious tone. I did a semi-serious read. They asked for another one more serious. My strength is cheery and friendly.
I turned them down! Suggested they look for another voice. One for our team! It can and should work both ways.

First of all, it is my understanding that the "You Won't Be Considered" (which I received one of myself this past week) only bars the voice seeker from seeing you for 6 months, not forever. Michelle Falzon or Steven Lowell would be the person who could clarify this.

It is also my understanding that MOST voice seekers have NO CLUE how choosing a rating like that affects the voice talent and the seeker's 'relationship' to said talent. I get the impression that the seekers use the rating system more as a means of separating voices they're strongly considering for their project, rather than using it to truly 'evaluate' a talent's ... uh.... talent. It's merely a way of clumping some together for the seeker, saying "Yeah, this is a good batch of possible voices" and "Nah, these won't work for what we need."
