At the moment my finances are recovering from an IED, a mugging, a knife attack, Nigerian fraudster and a Collie that knows the PIN for my ATM card. In a few weeks I will have recovered SO ....
Rumour has it that there will be no NYC VO mixer this year because aliens ate all the zippers in Erik's posh trousers .... So ....
I plan to get to a venue in NYC, sort of Time Square area, serving pies and pints on the evening of Saturday 7th December and then mix with any VOs who happen to show up. |

Funny you should mention this. At Uncle Roy's BBQ the topic of "Whither a VO Mixer" came up and it was determined that whenever there has been a mixer, we of the VO-BB have always gathered earlier in the day at a fabby NY venue (usually a spot suggested by Melissa eX), lunched and socialized before adjourning to the official mixer location, after which we capped the evening at yet another watering hole (generally selected by Diane Dimond).
So the following idea emerged: why not just assemble at one of those locations (i.e. Mustang Harry's or Hurley's, etc.) as if there were going to be a mixer and just not leave. Should the powers that be have a change of heart and decide to put on the mixer after all, we can do what we always do, but if not, we can just extend the stay at venue #1 into the wee hours. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Excellent idea, Philip! Sadly, a dress rehearsal that morning for pending holiday concerts prevents me from even thinking of attending on December 7th.
Not that I diss a good NYC party by any means - and would love to go to one sometime - but I humbly suggest that the Pacific Northwest also has a lot to offer voice-talking visitors. (Not the least of which is Bruce, Dan, SamA, Dave, Corey, Kafer, Kim, Ulf, me, and those I'm now offending by forgetting to list them [my humble apologies]; a gazillion microbreweries and excellent wine and coffee...) ...I'm just sayin'.
While I cannot personally spearhead such an event, I would certainly help if anyone else should wish to take the reins on one. _________________ jen@jengosnell.com

I haven't really spoken about it much here, but this year I've taken on a management role at Edge Studio. We would be happy to open the doors of our studios (right in Times Square) to any wayward vo-bbers (or any voiceoverists, for that matter) on December 7th. It's a nice spot, and if anyone needs to bang out a quick audition or use our Source-Connect/ISDN connection ... _________________ Graeme Spicer

Well, that sounds like the best idea I've heard in months! I, however, will not be recovered financially (having to tear down your house unexpectedly takes a toll) or time wise but I will be there in spirit. A bummer to miss out on NYC time with the gang but I'm sure you'll all make it through. _________________ 006 member of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Mic. Bonded by sound.

Darn. I'm on the other coast. I'll stay here though since it is warmer in December. _________________ Gregory Best

If this happens, I would love to be on the guest list as well. It would be great to chat with folks in person and imbibe some holiday cheer! _________________ www.juliaknippen.com

Oh, how I wish I could plan to be there, but instead I'm going to be driving home from Nebraska that weekend after we have spent a couple of days as a family at Eric's college attending a Christmas concert he is singing in. <sigh> Wishing I could be in more than one place at a time. _________________ Be well,

The last time I considered going to NYC I ended up in an ATR42 flying around Everest. |

I was under the impression from Speaking with Erik a month and a half or so ago, that the mixer was going to be in Los Angeles this year.
At least that was the plan. There may be any one of a number of factors that may make this a reality and I plan to speak to him again this week, and will provide an update. _________________ j.s. gilbert
