im imagine this to be one of the last REALLY NICE days of the year, and since i had to visit a client i thought i'd ride the bike, and since the GoPro was charged, i decided to strap it on.
highlights
riding out to blue sky vineyards
the ride out was about 30 minutes - it was awesome.

yep - dad's bike --- i'm back on the dual-sport suzuki dr350 after this week - pop is taking the bike to florida for the winter. i think we have worked out an agreeable winter/summer arrangement.
soundtrack is a ukrainian folk version of "highway to hell" featuring an accordion and a guy banging a suitcase with a water bottle.
fun, indeed!

It sounds just like the bootleg version of the background vocals session for The Beatles' "We Can Work It Out." The accordion was the giveaway.

Todd, I'm in rehearsals right now for a play that opens next week and this week only we had to move rehearsals to another side of Atlanta, about 30 miles from my house. I've chosen to take the bike to and from every night so as not to let Atlanta traffic get me down. The ride, and scenery, is the antithesis of the one you posted, but thank God for motorcycling for the SOUL!! It's the only thing that keeps me from slashing my wrists in rush-hour traffic.

Nice job Todd... Dude, you're a biker!!! Sorry, but I need to share. I've built quite a few. You would appreciate the one below. This is the fourth one I built. 1971 - Southern California. I was 19. It made it into Street Chopper Magazine and I thought I was hot stuff. (Notice - No front brake. REALLY smart!!!)
Much later in life, when my radio career left me, I had just built another, but it was only a single seater, so I told my wife that I bought another one. She didn't think that was real bright since I was now out of a job. I explained, 'Maybe so, but now I've got time to ride and I'm always leaving my best friend home when I do it'. When she wanted to see it, I told her I hadn't really bought one, but since she didn't try to talk me out of it, I wanted her to pick one out. She'd never really been on a 'bike', so this is what she chose, complete with intercom helmets, and found everything she's wearing to go with it, in thrift stores. From ex-bikers I guess. (picture taken in front of a friend's house, mid trip in Tennessee)
We rode from Ft. Lauderdale up to the Ohio River and back, never using an Interstate. Only back roads. Two weeks and 3,000 miles later, she said it was the best trip she'd ever been on. I said, 'You really like bikes that much?', she said, 'The bike was great, but having you in one place where I could talk to you and you couldn't get up and leave for two weeks, was awesome!'
People have bikes for different reasons... and long live every one of em!

Your wife had never ridden and that's what she chose, Rick??????? Good Lord! Hope she's never had to pick it up off the ground.
I had a modified front end (6" extension) put on my 1976 Kawasaki 750 twin, but of course it was NOTHING like the chopper you're on. Even so, it took some learning to get used to that new front end and rake. I never understood how anyone could ride something like what you're on there. Gorgeous bike, btw. AND wife. You outpunted your coverage with her!

Scott, let me be clear... she chose that for US to ride, not her! Which is why she said she could talk to me for two weeks and I couldn't get up and leave. If I DID get up and leave, she'd have REAL problems. It was quite the bonding experience. Every once in awhile, it would get real quiet and her helmet would clunk into mine. I knew at that point she had fallen asleep.
We have a couple friends who husband and wife each have bikes. The girls kept telling her that she needed her OWN bike. She thought they were nuts. I agreed.
And we did have to pick it up once. Not too many years ago, the Florida Turnpike used to take quarters at all the entrances and exits. You'd be amazed at how many quarters there are on the ground from people missing, at EVERY exit. So we used to do a thing called 'Swoop and Scoop'. I'd stop, she'd bend down and scoop, we'd drop in the quarters and be on our way. One time I remember us getting about ten bucks worth. Me being the 'honest' guy that I am, we pulled off at the next exit and put them all in. (I know, I can hear people now saying, 'idiot!')
So one time we were getting on the turnpike and I said, there's a bunch of cars behind us, no swooping! Well not being able to resist anything shiny, she bent down anyway. We were going slow, I felt the bike start to go over and couldn't put my foot down fast enough. It went down, I rolled off like a turtle and she stood upright, straddling where she used to be sitting, looking at both me and the bike on the ground. At that point, I FELT like and idiot. Well there's an art to picking up an 800 pound bike and it's not an art that's done quickly. By the time we got it up and off the side of the road, there was a REAL line of cars, each driving by with something encouraging to say. One guy yelled, 'Don't feel bad, I've done that myself!' Yeah... sure you have.

rick - i grew up on a bike - my mom & dad both rode - i got my 1st ride at 6 years old --- and i still have it.
1971 honda qa 50
it still runs & lives in the shed behind the house ... i take a putt around the yard on it every now & then.

OH - when I was 7 I had a yamaha 50, the first year they were out, I think. My big bro got the 80. We did chores for gas and had to learn how to take care of it (that is where I learned Emory boards are used in dirt biking and lawn mowing!).
